The ABB RTAC-01 Pulse Encoder Interface Module is a dedicated component for connecting encoders to ABB drive systems, enabling precise speed feedback and position monitoring. It supports core encoder channels (CH A, CH B, CH Z) with both differential and single-ended signal configurations, adapting to various encoder types commonly used in industrial motion control applications. Its dual short-circuit-proof voltage outputs (+24 V DC and +15 V DC, each 5 W max.) provide reliable power for connected encoders, eliminating the need for external power supplies.
Signal performance is a key strength of the RTAC-01: it handles up to 200 kHz signal frequency, delivering 15-bit speed feedback resolution (0.00305%) and 50 ppm accuracy—critical for high-precision processes like servo control or precision machining. The module also offers flexible cable length compatibility, with support for up to 300 m (differential push-pull) to accommodate large-scale equipment layouts. All materials meet UL/CSA standards, and it complies with EMC norms (EN 50081-2, EN 50082-2), ensuring stable operation in electromagnetic-noise-heavy industrial environments.
Installation of the RTAC-01 is streamlined for drive integration: it slots directly into Slot 1 or 2 of the drive’s RMIO board, secured by a clamp and two screws. These screws serve dual purposes: fastening the module and grounding the I/O cable shield, as well as connecting the GND signal between the module and the drive’s control board. Signal and power transmission to the drive occurs automatically via a built-in 38-pin connector, removing the need for manual wiring. While it can theoretically mount on a DIN rail adapter (AIMA-01), this accessory is currently unavailable.
