Features:
- Integrated Field Excitation Solution Within DCS 500 Armature Converter Modules
- Delivers Single-Phase AC/DC Power Conversion with Automatic Current Range Selection
- Functions Alongside the SDCS-CON-2 Control Board and SDCS-POW-1 Power Supply
The SDCS-FEX-2A 3ADT311500R1 serves as the half controlled field exciter in compatible DCS 500 drive modules, providing regulated DC field current to the motor from single-phase AC input. It continuously converts incoming AC power (110 V -15% to 500 V +10%, single phase, same frequency as DCS converter module) to controlled DC field current and delivers this excitation through direct internal mounting beside the SDCS-POW-1 electronic power supply. The SDCS-FEX-2A 3ADT311500R1 occupies a dedicated position inside the armature converter module, always installed adjacent to the SDCS-POW-1 within C1, C2, and A5 type DCS modules, and is not suitable for A6 and A7 (C4) configurations.
The microprocessor reads all information from the power section, receives all required voltage levels and control signals via flat cable X14 from the SDCS-CON-2, and generates the firing pulses for the power section. The output IACT signal is defined as Uout = 4 V × Iact / Ilim, where Ilim can be set to 3A, 5A, 7A, 9A, 11A, 13A, 15A, or 17A. Terminal X1 accepts a cross sectional area of 4 mm². When the SDCS-FEX-2A 3ADT311500R1 is used for smaller field currents, the control unit automatically selects a lower current range between 3 A and 16 A to achieve the best resolution.
For field weakening applications, the SDCS-FEX-2A 3ADT311500R1 ensures the actual field current of the motor at top speed remains higher than 0.3 A, maintaining stable excitation across the entire speed range. The AC isolation voltage of the SDCS-FEX-2A 3ADT311500R1 is 600 V, and the AC input current is less than or equal to the output current. The single phase rated AC input voltage range is 110 V to 500 V, with a maximum current capability of 16 A.
The SDCS-FEX-2A 3ADT311500R1 ABB Half Controlled Field Exciter may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
