More Information

Overview Manuals Safety & Compliance Diagnostics & Protection Connectivity Applications

Features:

  • Integrated station: Combines EtherCAT coupling with standard and fail-safe channels.
  • Safety communication: Uses FSoE to link the local channels with the safety controller.
  • Compact control: Supports mixed standard and safe signals within one terminal assembly.
The terminal sequence and TwinCAT configuration define how every channel appears in the process image.

Safety address and FSoE settings should be retained before a coupler is removed.

Changes to safe wiring require a new authorised validation of the affected function.

Apter Power supports EK1914 quotations, official documentation, and TwinSAFE terminal-station planning.

  • Sensor circuit: Confirm the approved input device and dual-channel architecture.
  • Test pulses: Keep pulse-source assignment consistent with the safety project.
  • Discrepancy: Review timing diagnostics when paired channels do not change together.
  • Proof test: Exercise the complete protective function, not only the terminal indication.
  • Dual switching: Check both controlled supply paths to the connected load.
  • Safe state: Confirm the machine reaches the intended condition when the channel is disabled.
  • Load circuit: Inspect current, suppression, commons, and external contactor feedback.
  • Topology: Keep the coupler and terminal sequence aligned with the TwinCAT project.
  • Safety address: Verify address settings before enabling communication.
  • Diagnostics: Use EtherCAT and TwinSAFE messages to separate network and field faults.
  • Restart: Clear faults only after the cause has been corrected and validated.
  • Compact safety: Combines local standard and safe signals in one EtherCAT station.
  • Guard functions: Supports validated sensors and actuators used in machine protection.
  • Distributed terminals: Extends TwinSAFE control to field-mounted IP20 terminal assemblies.
Description
Bringing communication and safety I/O together, EK1914 is a Beckhoff TwinSAFE EtherCAT coupler with four standard digital inputs, four standard digital outputs, two fail-safe inputs, and two fail-safe outputs. FSoE carries the safety communication within the EtherCAT system.

The safe outputs of EK1914 switch 24 VDC loads with both supply paths controlled, while the safe inputs require the intended sensor and test-pulse arrangement. The TwinCAT project, safety address, process image, and terminal sequence must agree with the installed machine.

Apter Power can support EK1914 quotations, official manuals, and terminal-station planning. Any safety-function change, proof test, or restart should remain under the machine manufacturer’s validated safety procedure and authorised personnel.

Technical notes
For EK1914, preserve the EtherCAT topology, terminal order, TwinSAFE address, FSoE connection, process image, and validated safety project. Check both 24 VDC output paths, safe-input test pulses, and field commons before startup. Any altered safety channel requires authorised validation, proof testing, and documented confirmation of the intended safe state.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What project data should be secured before servicing EK1914?
Back up the EtherCAT configuration, safety project, address settings, terminal sequence, process image, and proof-test results.
A standard input works but a safe input on EK1914 does not; what should be checked?
Check safe-channel wiring, test-pulse assignment, sensor type, discrepancy settings, safety address, diagnostics, and the validated logic.
Can a safe output load be moved to another EK1914 terminal without a project change?
No. Terminal assignment is part of the validated safety function and requires authorised engineering, configuration, and proof testing.
What should be checked when an EK1914 station does not enter operational state?
Review EtherCAT topology, terminal order, supply paths, coupler diagnostics, FSoE connection, address settings, and the TwinCAT error history.
How should EK1914 be recommissioned after wiring work?
Follow the approved safety validation, test every affected input and output, confirm the intended safe state, and archive the results.
What information helps Apter Power quote EK1914?
Provide the exact label, terminal sequence, safety project context, quantity, destination, required condition, and official-document needs.
