The 330878-90-05 operates as the 50mm Proximitor Sensor in a 3500 monitoring system, providing reliable eddy current signal conditioning from 50mm probes to the monitoring modules within the system. It continuously converts probe tip gap variations to regulated voltage signals and distributes this information through the 9.0 meter system cable to support steady state operation of all 3500/42 and compatible Proximitor monitors and modules. Seamless signal transfer is standard with the 330878-90-05, however using an optional DIN Rail Mount Configuration** will provide additional installation flexibility and RFI/EMI protection in demanding industrial environments. The 330878-90-05 has made improvements in several areas over previous Proximitor designs in addition to incorporating extended 27.9mm (1100 mil) linear range capability for large steam turbine generator DE and rotor expansion measurements within the 3500 rack.

The 330878-90-05 provides essential signal conditioning functions common to the entire monitoring path, and is a critical component of the eddy current measurement chain, directly affecting the accuracy and reliability of differential expansion and rotor expansion data acquisition in the overall monitor system. One 330878-90-05 Proximitor is required per 50mm probe depending on the desired measurement range and installation location. The 330878-90-05 occupies no rack slots but extends the connection from field-mounted 50mm probes to the 3500 rack backplane, and is always terminated at the 3500/40M, 3500/42 or compatible Proximitor module input channel (far left position of the module face, the dedicated sensor input terminals).

For Dual Probe Verification applications, the 3500 System requires a second 330878-90-05 Proximitor installed with a redundant 50mm probe at the same measurement location. In addition to standard single probe operation, the redundant configuration also performs automatic cross-verification for critical turbine generator DE measurements. The 3500 dual probe configuration executes comparison using the internal signal processing specified in the monitor module options. Using this method, the redundant Proximitor system continually monitors the health of both 50mm probe channels. If the system detects that the primary probe is no longer providing stable output (outside configured linear range/tolerance levels), it will automatically validate the differential expansion measurement against the secondary probe and place an event in the System Event List.
