Features:
- 16710-85 provides 85-foot armored 3-conductor 22 AWG shielded cable for accelerometer connectivity.
- Stainless steel armor resists crushing and abrasion; 3-socket plug mates with MIL-C-5015 receptacle.
- Terminal lugs at monitor end; supports cable runs up to 305 meters without signal degradation.
The 16710-85 is engineered for permanent installation in demanding industrial environments where standard cables would quickly fail. The stainless steel armor provides a robust protective layer that resists crushing from heavy equipment, abrasion against sharp metal edges, cutting from tools, and impact damage from falling objects. This makes the 16710-85 ideal for turbomachinery monitoring applications where cables are routed along machine frames, through cable trays with other heavy cables, or in areas with foot traffic. The armor also provides protection against rodents that may gnaw on unprotected cables. Despite its rugged construction, the 16710-85 remains flexible enough for installation in tight spaces.
The 16710-85 uses 22 AWG (0.5 mm²) shielded twisted conductors to ensure clean, noise-free transmission of the low-level accelerometer signal. Accelerometers produce a voltage output proportional to casing acceleration—330400 provides 100 mV/g sensitivity (50g range), while 330425 provides 25 mV/g sensitivity (75g range). These relatively low-level signals are susceptible to electromagnetic interference from nearby sources such as variable frequency drives, motor starters, large contactors, and radio transmitters. The twisted pair configuration cancels out common-mode noise induced equally on both conductors, while the overall shield provides an additional barrier against external electric fields.
The 16710-85 is terminated with terminal lugs at the monitor end, simplifying permanent wiring to Bently Nevada monitors and data acquisition systems. Terminal lugs provide a secure, low-resistance connection when fastened to screw-type terminal blocks, eliminating the need for field stripping and tinning of small-gauge wire. This reduces installation time and the risk of wiring errors. The 3-conductor configuration accommodates power, signal, and ground connections typical of IEPE (Integrated Electronics Piezo-Electric) accelerometers. The cable's operating temperature range of -55°C to +121°C (-67°F to +250°F) matches the accelerometer's environmental rating, ensuring reliable performance in extreme conditions.
The 16710-85 Bently Nevada Armored Cable may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Heavy-Duty Power Generation: Bridges acceleration sensors mounted on the external casings of high-speed steam turbines, industrial gas turbines, hydro-turbines, and large-scale generators.
- Oil & Gas and Petrochemical Processing: Deployed on critical turbo-machinery, including multi-stage centrifugal compressors, high-pressure extraction pumps, and turbo-expanders.
- Heavy Industrial Manufacturing: Used extensively in steel mills, cement plants, and pulp & paper facilities to monitor large motor-driven induction fans, blowers, air compressors, and processing rollers.
- High Signal Integrity (EMI/RFI Immunity): The 3-conductor configuration utilizes an integrated tinned-copper drain wire enveloped by a full foil and braid shield. This eliminates electromagnetic interference (EMI) and radio frequency interference (RFI), allowing high-frequency AC acceleration signals to remain pristine over long distances.
- Mechanical Armor Protection: Encased in a rugged, flexible interlocking metal armor sleeve. This robust layer absorbs high physical crushing forces, prevents sharp-edge tearing, and resists rodent or environmental degradation without losing flexibility.
- Wide Thermal Operational Range: Built with advanced abrasion-resistant polymers and heavy-duty insulation, the cable operates reliably in extreme temperatures ranging from -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to 185°F), preventing jacket cracking or thermal degradation.
- High-Frequency Gear Mesh Monitoring: Commonly paired with the 330400 Accelerometer to monitor high-speed gearboxes. The armor shields the line from high-vibration structural fatigue, while the 3-wire line safely relays the rolling-element bearing defect frequencies back to the rack.
- Long-Distance Field-to-Rack Routing: The 85-foot length option is perfectly suited for installations where the physical sensor is isolated deep within a turbine enclosure or skid, requiring an unbroken, armored run directly out to a remote terminal box or junction panel without intermediate splice joints.
- Hazardous Area Deployments: When implemented alongside approved zener barriers or galvanic isolators, the cable integrates into Intrinsically Safe (IS) control loops. This permits the cable to safely traverse Class I, Division 1 (or Zone 0/1) hazardous locations containing explosive vapor or gas mixtures.
- Hardware Integration Ecosystems: Functions seamlessly with the Bently Nevada 3500 Machinery Protection System or the advanced Orbit 60 Distributed Protection Platform. Dynamic signals from this cable route straight into System 1 Diagnostic Software to generate spectrums, orbits, and trend analysis plots.
