Features:
- ±0.1 rpm (<100 rpm), ±1 rpm (100‑10,000 rpm), ±0.01% (>10,000 rpm); maximum input frequency 20 kHz.
- Can supply conditioned Keyphasor signals to the 3500 rack backplane for use by other monitors; eliminates separate Keyphasor module.
- Speed monitoring with alarming, speed band alarming, zero speed notification, rotor acceleration alarming, reverse rotation notification.
The 3500/50M 288062-02 provides exceptional speed measurement accuracy over a wide range. For low speeds below 100 rpm, accuracy is ±0.1 rpm – essential for startup monitoring and zero speed detection. In the 100‑10,000 rpm range, accuracy is ±1 rpm. Above 10,000 rpm, accuracy is ±0.01% of true shaft speed, meaning at 50,000 rpm the error is only ±5 rpm. The maximum full‑scale range is 99,999 rpm, with a maximum input frequency of 20 kHz. The module can accept inputs from proximity probes (minimum frequency 0.0167 Hz / 1 rpm with 1 event/revolution) or passive magnetic pickups (minimum frequency 3.3 Hz).
In traditional 3500 rack configurations, a dedicated Keyphasor module was required to provide once‑per‑turn reference signals to other monitors (e.g., vibration monitors for phase measurement). The 3500/50M 288062-02 eliminates the need for this separate module. When configured appropriately, the tachometer module conditions the raw transducer signal (from a proximity probe or magnetic pickup) into a clean Keyphasor pulse and supplies it directly to the 3500 rack backplane. Other monitors in the same rack – such as 3500/40M (Proximitor), 3500/42M (Proximitor/Seismic), and 3500/60 (Temperature) – can use this Keyphasor signal for phase referencing.
The 3500/50M 288062-02 is not just a simple speed monitor; it offers six configurable monitoring modes. Speed Monitoring with Setpoint Alarming provides basic high/low speed alarms. Speed Band Alarming triggers when speed falls within a defined band – useful for detecting operation at critical speeds. Zero Speed Notification indicates when the shaft stops. Rotor Acceleration Alarming monitors acceleration rates (rpm per minute), important for detecting overspeed transients or startup overshoots. Reverse Rotation Notification detects when the shaft turns backward, which can damage pumps and compressors. The module also includes a peak hold feature that stores the highest speed, highest reverse speed, and number of reverse rotations. These stored values can be reset. Each channel has a recorder output (4‑20 mA) proportional to full‑scale range (rpm or rpm/min).

- Power Generation & Petrochemical Plants: Monitored equipment includes steam/gas turbines, multi-stage centrifugal compressors, and heavy-duty industrial pumps.
- Asset Performance Types: Used on standard single-shaft machines, complex gearboxes, and dual-spool/multi-shaft drivers.
- System Integration: Functions as a localized speed server inside the 3500 rack by conditioning and supplying Keyphasor signals directly to the backplane. This avoids needing an independent Keyphasor module.
- Speed & Speed Band Alarming: Tracks absolute RPM up to 99,999 RPM and alarms if speed drifts outside specific, safe operational limits.
- Rotor Acceleration Alarming: Measures the rate of change of speed (RPM/min). It protects multi-million dollar turbine rotors from catastrophic mechanical stresses during rapid acceleration periods.
- Zero Speed Notification: Verifies absolute standstill conditions. This ensures interlocks can safely permit turning-gear engagement or auxiliary maintenance steps.
- Reverse Rotation Notification: Instantly detects backward shaft spinning. This prevents severe thrust-bearing or aerodynamic destruction on compressors caused by fluid backflow.
- Slot Configuration: The 3500/50M system takes a two-part vertical stack. The front slot of the 19-inch rack houses the main 3500/50M Monitor Card. The corresponding rear slot takes the 288062-02 I/O module.
- Wiring Method: The 288062-02 utilizes Internal Terminations. Transducer field cables route straight to the Euro-style terminal strip on the rear I/O plate without needing external termination blocks.
- Module Hot-Swapping: The 3500 system architecture naturally supports hot-plugging. However, it is highly recommended to engage the Rack Reset/Bypass switch or trip inhibition relays before removing cards to ensure no accidental automated machinery trips occur.
