Features:
- Provides comprehensive current and voltage signal acquisition for power system monitoring
- Supports multiple CT secondary ratings with dedicated ground CTs for high-resistance grounded systems
- Designed for older UR systems with firmware 3.5x or earlier and compatible CPU modules
The UR8AH is a high-density CT/VT input module that provides 6 current transformer inputs (3 phase CTs and 3 dedicated ground CTs) and 4 voltage transformer inputs . This 6CT+4VT configuration ensures comprehensive signal acquisition for power system protection, making it particularly valuable for detecting ground faults in high-resistance grounded systems where standard 4CT modules cannot provide accurate detection . The module scales down primary current and voltage values to levels that the UR relay can process, enabling precise measurement of voltage, current, power, energy, frequency, and demand.
The UR8AH supports both 1A and 5A CT secondary ratings, providing flexibility to match various field-installed current transformers . The VT inputs are compatible with multiple primary voltage levels including 115V, 230V, 460V, and 575V, accommodating different power system voltage classes . This flexibility allows the UR8AH to be deployed across a wide range of applications, from low-voltage industrial distribution to high-voltage transmission systems.
The UR8AH is an older generation CT/VT module that accepts firmware version 3.5x or earlier and is compatible with CPU modules such as the UR-9A, UR-9C, and UR-9D . It is configured and monitored using GE's EnerVista UR software, which provides a user-friendly interface for adjusting CT/VT settings, trending data, and exporting measurements . The module supports Modbus RTU and Modbus TCP/IP protocols, enabling integration with SCADA systems, PLCs, and RTUs for remote monitoring and control.
The UR8AH GE CT/VT Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Power Transmission & Substation Automation: Integrated into central grid networks to drive distance, differential, and overcurrent line-protection schemes.
- Large Machinery & Generator Infrastructure: Feeds high-accuracy electrical signals to host relays handling synchronous generator monitoring, stator ground-fault tracking, and heavy industrial motor management.
- Industrial Plants & Power Distribution: Monitored within high-demand heavy manufacturing facilities (such as steel mills, chemical plants, and refineries) to govern incoming transformer feeds and capacitor banks.
- High-Sampling Accuracy: Delivers high-precision analog-to-digital signal conversion, ensuring that the host UR Digital Signal Processor (DSP) receives pure, uncorrupted wave metrics to execute fault-calculation formulas.
- Thermal Resilience & Ruggedization: Built to operate seamlessly under wide industrial temperature variations spanning from -40°C to 85°C and 5% to 95% non-condensing humidity.
- Maintenance Efficiency: Utilizing the UR platform's architecture, the module supports standard field replacement workflows, drastically minimizing substation downtime during hardware expansions or replacements.
- Three-Phase & Ground Current Tracking: Used to map a comprehensive standard grid node by assigning three channels to Phase currents (A, B, C), one channel to Ground/Neutral current monitoring, and four channels to Phase/Busbar voltages.
- Digital Fault & Sequence of Events Recording (SOE): Captures precise waveform behavior when a breaker trips. This data is fed back into GE’s EnerVista UR software suite to perform predictive grid analytics and post-fault root-cause analysis.
- Substation SCADA / DCS Integration: Functions as the analog collection anchor inside UR series bays (e.g., G60, T60, B30 protection relays). This allows real-time current, voltage, and power factor telemetry data to stream upstream via protocols like IEC 61850.
