More Information

Overview Manuals RTD Inputs Wiring Setup Data Processing Diagnostics

Features:

  • EH-PT4 accepts four Pt100 or Pt1000 resistance-temperature inputs.
  • Signed 15-bit conversion covers selectable -20 to +40°C and -50 to +400°C ranges.
  • H7FFF marks out-of-range measurements and wire-break conditions.
The front assembly combines a lock button, I/O cover, removable terminal block and range-setting switch.

After the CPU recognizes the installed EH-PT4 and its I/O assignment matches the user program, the controller receives the module's input information.

Four channel terminal groups connect to A, B and b points, while terminals 9 and 18 supply the external 24 V DC path.

The Hitachi EH-PT4 RTD Input Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Sensor and channel selection

  • Sensor types: The input circuit accepts platinum Pt100 and Pt1000 resistance-temperature elements.
  • Channel count: Four measurement points are converted into four temperature values.
  • Range switch: Switch settings select the RTD type and the corresponding -20 to +40°C or -50 to +400°C span.
  • Excitation method: Temperature measurement uses a 2 mA constant-current system.

Terminal and cable arrangement

  • Field connector: Input signals terminate on a removable M3 screw terminal block.
  • Channel terminals: A0-A3, B0-B3 and b0-b3 identify the four RTD wiring groups.
  • External power: Terminals 9 and 18 connect the 24 V DC positive and negative supply.
  • Cable boundary: Shielded cable is specified, with 400 Ω maximum total external wiring resistance across four values.

Conversion and controller exchange

  • Data format: Each temperature result is represented as signed 15-bit conversion data.
  • Update cycle: The module converts approximately four input values per second.
  • CPU allocation: The EH-PT4 I/O assignment is X4W in the controller program.
  • Signal function: Built-in linearization converts RTD resistance into temperature data.

Validity and isolation checks

  • Low limit: A temperature value at or below -51°C produces H7FFF.
  • High limit: A temperature value at or above 410°C produces H7FFF.
  • Open wiring: A wire-break condition makes the affected conversion value H7FFF.
  • Isolation: Inputs are photocoupler-isolated from the internal circuit but not isolated from one another.
Description
Hitachi EH-PT4 is a four-channel RTD input module for EH-150 and EHV+ programmable controllers. It receives Pt100 or Pt1000 resistance-temperature signals and converts each measurement into signed 15-bit temperature data for the CPU.

A range-selection switch on EH-PT4 matches the installed RTD configuration to either -20 to +40°C or -50 to +400°C. The specified accuracy applies after ten minutes from power-up, linking range selection and stabilization time to the temperature value received by the controller.

Field wiring reaches EH-PT4 through the removable M3 terminal block, with A, B and b terminals assigned to each input. The module uses shielded cable, a 24 V DC external supply and photocoupler isolation between the input section and internal circuit; the input values are not isolated from one another.

During conversion, EH-PT4 updates four values in approximately one second and assigns X4W to the CPU. A conversion value of H7FFF identifies an out-of-range temperature or a wire-break condition so invalid channel data is distinct from normal readings.

Technical notes
Hitachi EH-PT4 linearizes four Pt100/Pt1000 measurements as signed 15-bit data with an X4W I/O assignment. Its 24 V DC field supply and shielded M3-terminal wiring should match the documented connection layout.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Which RTD element should be connected to Hitachi EH-PT4 before a measuring range is selected?
Hitachi EH-PT4 accepts Pt100 or Pt1000 elements; the range switch must match the sensor type and its documented temperature span.
How does the selected range affect the accuracy available from EH-PT4?
For EH-PT4, the -20 to +40°C Pt100 range has the narrowest accuracy limits, while the wider Pt100 and Pt1000 ranges use their own published tolerances.
What does H7FFF mean in data returned by EH-PT4?
EH-PT4 returns H7FFF when a measured temperature is at or below -51°C, at or above 410°C, or when the affected input wiring is broken.
Why must external cable resistance be checked when wiring Hitachi EH-PT4?
Hitachi EH-PT4 specifies shielded wiring and a maximum total external wiring resistance of 400 Ω across the four input values.
Does EH-PT4 electrically isolate each RTD channel from the others?
EH-PT4 uses photocoupler isolation between its input section and internal circuit, but the four input values are not isolated from one another.
What must the PLC program allocate before it can receive Hitachi EH-PT4 data?
The PLC program must match the Hitachi EH-PT4 X4W I/O assignment; after recognition, approximately four converted values are updated per second.
