Features:
- Three-phase mains energy is converted into regulated servo-motor current.
- PROFINET carries setpoints, status and drive diagnostics.
- Motor feedback closes the position and speed control loop.
The power stage follows the active control command while respecting the configured motor data and current limits.
Encoder feedback lets the drive compare actual shaft motion with the commanded trajectory.
The separate 24 V DC feed powers the control electronics and communication interface.
The Siemens 6SL3210-5HE10-8UF0 SINAMICS S210 Servo Drive may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Following energy from mains input to the motor
- Input stage: Three-phase AC enters the converter within the documented voltage and frequency range.
- DC link: The intermediate circuit separates the mains conversion from motor-side modulation.
- Motor output: The inverter produces regulated three-phase current for the connected servo motor.
- Thermal path: Forced airflow removes power-stage losses when the drive is mounted vertically.
Closing the servo loop with motor position data
- Setpoint: PROFINET supplies the drive with the active motion command.
- Encoder return: The motor feedback path reports actual position and speed.
- Regulation: The drive compares commanded and measured motion before adjusting motor current.
- Cable boundary: The motor cable remains within the documented maximum length for the configured installation.
Using the documented fail-safe input pair
- Input pair: Two of the digital inputs can be assigned together as the fail-safe channel.
- STO: Safe Torque Off removes the torque-producing command through the integrated safety path.
- SS1: Safe Stop 1 follows the documented controlled-stop sequence before torque is removed.
- Project match: Drive parameters and the safety-control logic must select the same intended function.
Coordinating the drive with the PROFINET controller
- Device identity: The project assigns the drive name and network parameters.
- Telegram: The selected telegram defines how command and status words are exchanged.
- Motor data: Commissioning values connect the control algorithm with the exact motor and encoder.
- Diagnostics: PROFINET reports drive state and fault information to the automation system.
