Features:
- The SS52 adds PROFIBUS-DP master/slave and MPI communication to a SIMADYN D CS7 support module.
- A 16 kbyte dual-port RAM on the CS7 carries data between the communication path and CPU modules.
- Connector X5 combines isolated RS485, RS232 service signals, and an isolated 5 V optical-link supply.
One configured CS7 communication receptacle carries Siemens 6DD1688-0AE2 inside the SIMADYN D station.
Bus data from 6DD1688-0AE2 crosses the CS7 dual-port memory before it reaches the associated CPU functions.
The connector and diagnostic LEDs of 6DD1688-0AE2 separate network traffic, service access, and fault indication.
The Siemens 6DD1688-0AE2 SIMADYN D SS52 PROFIBUS-DP Communication Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Carrier Receptacle and CPU Exchange
- Plug-in position: The SS52 enters the SIMADYN D station through a configured receptacle on the CS7 carrier.
- Carrier capacity: One CS7 accepts no more than the documented number of communication modules.
- Shared memory: The CS7 dual-port RAM provides the data-transfer boundary between communication and CPU modules.
- HWConfig entry: The support module, receptacle, and SS52 assignment must agree with the station configuration.
Master/Slave Traffic and Bus Functions
- Master role: The configured module controls the assigned PROFIBUS-DP exchanges when it operates as master.
- Slave role: In slave mode, data maps to the areas defined for the supervising DP master.
- Shared input: Configured stations can consume the same input data through the documented DP function.
- SYNC and FREEZE: The DP control commands coordinate output or input states across the assigned slave group.
Bus, Service, and Optical-Link Paths
- RS485 pair: Pins 3 and 8 carry the isolated PROFIBUS receive/transmit pair.
- RS232 service: The transmit, receive, and ground pins serve SS52 loading or diagnostic access.
- OLM supply: The isolated external 5 V and ground pins feed supported optical link modules.
- Termination: The selected SINEC L2 connector or terminal closes the bus at the required network end.
Initialization, Bus, and Grounding Checks
- LED pair: Green and yellow indications on the CS7 receptacle distinguish initialization, bus activity, and faults.
- Bus fault: A flashing fault pattern directs inspection to wiring, termination, parameterization, and the bus state.
- Front bond: The module front panel connects to the CS7 front panel with the supplied bonding path.
- Cable screen: A broad grounding connection at cabinet entry and connector housing completes the EMC screen path.
