Features:
- PROFIBUS DP to PROFIBUS PA coupling
- 110 mA fieldbus output for up to 31 devices
- Ex [ia] field connection with galvanic isolation
Siemens
6ES7157-0AD82-0XA0 is the FDC157 Ex [ia] coupler that joins a PROFIBUS DP controller network to a PA fieldbus segment.
The coupler converts the DP communication path to the 31.25 kbit/s IEC 61158-2 physical layer and supplies current to the connected PA devices.
Dedicated LEDs show DP activity, PA activity and 24 V supply state, while isolation separates the two bus sides from the remaining circuits.
The Siemens 6ES7157-0AD82-0XA0 FDC157 Ex [ia] DP/PA Coupler may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

DP and PA Data Paths
- Controller side: PROFIBUS DP connects through a 9-pin Sub-D interface.
- DP rate: The controller-side path operates at up to 45.45 kbit/s.
- Field side: The IEC 61158-2 connection operates at 31.25 kbit/s.
- Coupling role: The unit transfers communication between the different physical layers without combining their electrical circuits.
PA Segment Loading
- Output current: The PA connection supplies 110 mA in total.
- Device count: Up to thirty-one field devices can be connected.
- Load calculation: The combined device current must remain within the coupler output.
- Incoming power: A 24 V DC input supplies the coupler electronics and fieldbus output.
Intrinsically Safe Output
- Maximum Uo: The fieldbus open-circuit voltage is limited to 15 V.
- Maximum Io: The documented short-circuit current is 247 mA.
- Maximum Po: Output power is limited to 1.95 W.
- Isolation: The DP and PA interfaces are galvanically separated from the remaining circuitry.
Operating-State Checks
- DP LED: A yellow indicator identifies activity on the controller-side bus.
- PA LED: A separate yellow indicator reports fieldbus-side activity.
- Supply LED: The green 24 V indicator shows the incoming power state.
- Diagnostics: Device diagnostic information is available through the PROFIBUS system.
