Features:
- A 7.5-inch touch display and 52 membrane keys place CNC visualization and command entry in one handheld unit.
- The integrated handwheel and 19-position override switch support controlled manual axis movement.
- Two-channel emergency-stop and enabling circuits remain separate from normal operator-key data.
The HT 8 combines screen-based SINUMERIK operation with physical controls that can be reached while the terminal is held.
Machine-command data and safety-circuit states follow different electrical paths through the rear terminal connection.
The 24 V DC supply, connection cable and strain relief must be treated as parts of the complete handheld installation.
The Siemens 6FC5403-0AA20-1AA1 SINUMERIK HT 8 Handheld Terminal may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Separating safety actions from operator commands
- Emergency stop: The two-channel device is wired through dedicated safety contacts rather than the ordinary key interface.
- Enabling action: Two three-stage switches let the safety circuit distinguish released, enabled and fully pressed positions.
- Signal boundary: Touch and membrane-key actions remain standard operating commands and do not replace the safety channels.
- Circuit review: Both channels and the machine-side evaluation must be checked together before the terminal is enabled.
Using the local handwheel and override selector
- Handwheel path: Rotary movement is converted into incremental commands for the selected CNC axis.
- Override positions: The 19-position selector supplies the documented traverse or feed override selection.
- Axis selection: The active machine function determines which axis or motion receives handwheel pulses.
- Command separation: The rotary controls do not share the same purpose as the membrane machine keys.
Combining screen feedback with physical input
- Touch layer: The 640 x 480 display presents SINUMERIK screens and accepts configured touch selections.
- Machine keys: Twenty-four keys are assigned to machine-side commands.
- Control keys: Twenty-eight further keys serve navigation and operating entries.
- Visual response: The display returns process and menu feedback for actions entered through either interface.
Connecting power, control data and service access
- Supply path: The terminal receives its 24 V DC operating power through the documented rear connection.
- Control link: The machine interface carries operator data between the HT 8 and SINUMERIK system.
- USB service: A separate USB connection is provided for supported service functions.
- Mechanical support: Correct connector seating and strain relief prevent cable movement from loading the terminal contacts.
