Features:
- Interface Between the Generator Set Control System and EGCP-3 Rack Backplane
- Combines Capability of Load Sharing Control with Redundant Power Support
- Operates in Conjunction with the MC Series and Standard EGCP-3 Monitors
The WOODWARD 8406-113 operates as the Load Sharing Control Package in an EGCP-3 rack, providing reliable control functions to all generator sets within the system. It continuously manages load distribution among parallel-operating generator sets (supporting Isochronous, Droop, and BaseLoad control modes) and distributes control signals through the rack backplane to support steady state operation of all generators and modules. Seamless load transfer is standard with the WOODWARD 8406-113, however using an optional MC Unit Configuration will allow seamless switchover to a backup supply in the event of a primary control failure. The WOODWARD 8406-113 has made improvements in several areas over previous control designs in addition to incorporating universal input voltage capability (18-32 V DC) within the EGCP-3 rack.
The WOODWARD 8406-113 provides essential control functions common to the entire rack, and is a critical component of the monitoring path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall generator system. One or two WOODWARD 8406-113 control packages are required per rack depending on the desired redundancy level. The WOODWARD 8406-113 occupies only a single half-height slot in the rack and is always located in the dedicated control slots.
For MC Unit Control applications, the EGCP-3 System requires a WOODWARD 8406-114 MC unit module installed in the redundant slot. In addition to standard single control operation, the redundant configuration also performs automatic switchover. The EGCP-3 dual control configuration executes failover using the internal circuitry specified in the control options. Using this method, the redundant control system continually monitors the health of both supplies. If the system detects that the primary control package is no longer providing stable output (outside configured voltage/tolerance levels), it will automatically transfer the load to the secondary supply and place an event in the System Event List.
The WOODWARD 8406-113 EGCP-3 Load Sharing Control Package may still be available for purchase and support from authorized Woodward distributors beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
