The ABB BCU-12 Control Unit (3AUA0000110430) is a high-performance control unit designed for managing ABB converters via fiber optic links. It integrates branching unit functionality, enabling the collection and secure storage of real-time data from connected converter modules to support fault tracing, monitoring, and analysis. Data is safely stored on a secure data card to ensure reliability and traceability.
Equipped with seven fiber optic connections (V1…V7), the BCU-12 includes one BPEB‑05 board, which adds five additional connections beyond the basic V1 and V2. This allows the unit to interface seamlessly with multiple converter modules while maintaining synchronized communication and efficient control.
The BCU-12 operates on a 24 V DC (±10%) power supply at 2 A, and supports relay outputs RO1…RO3 rated at 250 VAC/30 VDC, 2 A. It also includes six digital inputs (DI1…DI6) compatible with NPN/PNP and PNP logic levels, featuring hardware filtering (0.04 ms) and digital filtering up to 8 ms to ensure stable signal processing.
Constructed with a hot-dip zinc coated steel housing and painted cover, the unit is designed for durability in industrial environments, with an operating temperature range of 0–70 °C (32–158 °F) and IP10 protection rating. The BCU‑12 is compatible with standard RS‑485 communication via RJ‑45 connectors, supporting 8 Mbit/s transmission rate and frequency range 0–500 Hz, making it ideal for robust converter control applications.
