Description
The ABB SDCS-PIN-21 is a dedicated power interface board engineered for seamless integration with ABB DCS500B, DCS600, and DCS800 series converters (construction types C1 and C2), serving as a critical intermediary between the converter’s control unit and power stage. It consolidates essential functions to ensure reliable thyristor-based converter operation, including generating firing pulses via pulse transformers, measuring armature current and high-ohmic AC/DC voltages, and safeguarding thyristors through integrated RC/RCD snubber circuits. Additional capabilities include rated current scaling with burden resistors, zero-current detection, hardware voltage type coding, and heat sink temperature monitoring via a PTC sensor—with the added versatility of operating unmodified in three-phase field supply converters.
Electrical specifications feature a typical 24V DC operating voltage (supplied by the converter’s backplane) and Bussmann KTK-R-6A (600V) fuses for overvoltage protection and voltage measurement circuit safety. The board is compatible with C1/C2 converter racks and incorporates electrical isolation for communication and measurement circuits to prevent interference. As a legacy spare part, it is superseded by SDCS-PIN205B (for 100A–1000A/500V converters, including DCF models) and SDCS-PIN206B (for 110A–450A/600V converters), with the newer PIN20xB series capable of replacing the SDCS-PIN-21 (alongside PIN-22/25) but not vice versa—note that additional configuration steps are required for converters rated 450A/520A/700A at 500V or 450A at 600V.
Designed for industrial robustness, the board supports straightforward rack-mounted installation per ABB DCS series guidelines, with safety enhanced by fuse-protected snubber circuits (F 101–F 103 for RCD elements) and voltage measurements taken downstream of fuses to minimize hazard risks. It operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C (storage: -40°C to +85°C) and relative humidity of 5–95% RH (non-condensing), complying with standard industrial altitude requirements for converter equipment.
