Features:
- Delivers Isolated Trigger Pulses from Control Electronics to Power Stage Thyristors
- Embeds Current and Voltage Sensing Circuits for AC and DC Bus Monitoring
- Matched to the SDCS-PIN-51 Measurement Board for Complete Power Interface Coverage
The SDCS-PIN-41 functions as the Pulse Transformer Board in ABB DCS converter modules A5, A6, A7 and C4, providing isolated gate trigger pulses to power thyristors through six on-board pulse transformers and their associated amplifier circuits. It continuously processes current signals from the main AC input current transformers, rectifies them via diode bridges, and scales the signals to a 1.5 V rated current value through load resistors. The board also measures U1, V1, W1 AC voltages and C1(+), D1(-) DC voltages using high-value resistor chains, with scaling accomplished by cutting short-circuit wires to activate 1 MΩ resistors. Rated for industrial environments, the SDCS-PIN-41 typically operates over a -10 °C to +70 °C temperature range with isolation voltage no less than 2500 V. Since 1998, the SDCS-PIN-41A variant has been introduced as a fully interchangeable replacement, and since mid-2005 the SDCS-PIN-48 version supersedes both the SDCS-PIN-41 and SDCS-PIN-41A in newly delivered converters.
The SDCS-PIN-41 provides essential pulse distribution and measurement functions common to the entire converter power interface, and is a critical component of the firing and monitoring signal path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall DCS drive system. One SDCS-PIN-41 board is required per converter module depending on the drive current rating, covering applications from 900 A up to 5200 A. The SDCS-PIN-41 is always installed together with the SDCS-PIN-51 measurement board, occupying dedicated slots within the converter power interface assembly.
For proper measurement configuration, the SDCS-PIN-41 requires precise adjustment of on-board resistors R1 through R21 to match the rated motor current, while resistors R22 through R26 must be cut according to the current coding table to enable current zero-crossing detection. All five voltage measurement resistor chains must be adjusted uniformly by cutting the corresponding short-circuit conductors. It is important to note that the main circuit voltage signals on the SDCS-PIN-41 are not fully galvanically isolated from the control board, resulting in a ground leakage current of less than 1 mA.
The SDCS-PIN-41 ABB Pulse Transformer Board may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
