Features:

  • Central Controller for CompactLogix Systems and Distributed I/O Networks
  • Integrated Dual ControlNet Ports Supporting Redundant Media Communication
  • Direct Support for 1769 Backplane Bus and Serial Interface Protocols
The 1769-L35CR Allen-Bradley CompactLogix Controller serves as the central processing unit within a 1769 CompactLogix system, delivering high-performance control and real-time data exchange for mid-sized industrial automation applications. It incorporates 1.5 MB of embedded user memory and features built-in dual ControlNet channels (Channel A and Channel B) to maintain continuous communication with remote I/O chassis and network nodes over redundant media. In addition to ControlNet connectivity, the 1769-L35CR includes an integrated RS-232 serial port supporting system or user protocols (such as DF1 or ASCII) for flexible connection to legacy devices, programming terminals, and operator interfaces.

The 1769-L35CR handles time-critical control functions across the system backplane and represents the core control engine for the entire 1769 system architecture. In a standard CompactLogix system, exactly one controller is permitted per system. The 1769-L35CR is mechanically designed to occupy the leftmost position of the local bank, functioning exclusively in Slot 0.

For High-Availability ControlNet applications, the 1769-L35CR enables continuous network monitoring across its redundant ControlNet media channels. In addition to standard single-cable ControlNet operation, the redundant configuration automatically manages network traffic across both physical links. The 1769-L35CR constantly monitors the integrity of the network connections on Channel A and Channel B. If the system detects a cable break or signal degradation on the primary ControlNet link, it seamlessly transitions media communication to the secondary channel without disrupting I/O scanning or processor execution, maintaining uninterrupted determinism across distributed I/O racks.

The 1769-L35CR Allen Bradley CompactLogix Controller may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Description
The Allen-Bradley 1769-L35CR CompactLogix Controller is designed to address complex industrial control challenges that require deterministic, high-speed network communication combined with media redundancy, solving the critical issue of unscheduled downtime caused by single-point network cable failures in distributed control systems. Featuring 1.5 MB of embedded user memory and dual ControlNet ports (Channels A and B) supporting media redundancy, the 1769-L35CR ensures uninterrupted data transfer between the central controller and field-level remote I/O chassis. Additionally, the 1769-L35CR includes an integrated RS-232 serial port for legacy device interfacing, making it an ideal master control engine for mid-sized applications requiring time-critical synchronization and high data availability.

The 1769-L35CR is widely deployed across demanding process and discrete manufacturing sectors, including water and wastewater management, oil and gas, chemical processing, automotive assembly, and automated material handling systems. In these application scenarios, the 1769-L35CR handles centralized batch control, multi-axis motion synchronization, and real-time data collection across geographically spread-out facilities. By leveraging its scheduled ControlNet network capabilities, the 1769-L35CR coordinates seamlessly with remote drives, operator interfaces (HMIs), and distributed 1769 or POINT I/O racks without overburdening local backplane communication.
