More Information

Overview Manuals Signal Setup Wiring Performance Application
  • Eight single-ended analog input channels
  • Selectable current and voltage ranges per channel
  • All channels convert within 256 µs

1794-IE8 is an Allen-Bradley FLEX I/O eight-channel analog input module for distributed voltage and current measurement.

Each channel accepts a supported current or voltage range, while all channels share a nonisolated measurement domain and convert through a successive-approximation converter.

Before installation or replacement, verify Series B, the terminal base, external 24 V supply, signal range, common potential, shield path, and controller scaling.

Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for 1794-IE8 are confirmed during quotation.

  • Select 0–20 mA or 4–20 mA for current-input channels
  • Select 0–10 V or ±10 V for voltage-input channels
  • Use only one voltage or current input path per channel
  • Supports 2-wire, 3-wire, and 4-wire input field devices
  • Requires a compatible FLEX I/O terminal base
  • Requires ground-loop control because channels are nonisolated
  • Uses successive-approximation analog-to-digital conversion
  • Provides 12-bit unipolar or 11-bit-plus-sign bipolar resolution
  • Specifies 0.20% full-scale accuracy at 25°C
  • Acquisition of 0–20 mA or 4–20 mA process-transmitter signals
  • Measurement of unipolar or bipolar voltage-sensor outputs
  • Distributed multichannel analog monitoring in FLEX I/O stations
Description
1794-IE8 acquires eight single-ended analog input channels in a FLEX I/O station. Supported ranges include 4...20 mA, 0...20 mA, 0...10 V, and positive or negative 10 V operation.

All channels on 1794-IE8 convert within 256 microseconds. The module provides 12-bit unipolar or 11-bit plus sign bipolar resolution and is specified at 0.20 percent of full scale under the published reference conditions.

Because the channels are nonisolated, selection and troubleshooting for 1794-IE8 should include common potential, grounding, shield termination, signal range, scaling, terminal base, and sensor power. A range match in software does not correct an unsuitable field wiring reference.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can Allen-Bradley 1794-IE8 mix voltage and current inputs in one module?
Yes. Channels are individually configurable, but each channel must use either its voltage input or its current input, never both simultaneously.
What grounding limitation matters most for Allen-Bradley 1794-IE8?
The channels are not isolated from one another. Review common potential, grounded versus floating sources, shield termination, and ground-loop risk before connecting field devices.
Which terminal bases can be used with Allen-Bradley 1794-IE8?
Rockwell lists 1794-TB2, 1794-TB3, 1794-TB3S, 1794-TB3T, and 1794-TB3TS; choose the termination style and wiring capacity required by the station.
Which hardware Series is currently documented for Allen-Bradley 1794-IE8?
The current Rockwell product page identifies Series B. Confirm the `SER` marking on the actual module before replacing a Series-specific installation.
Does Allen-Bradley 1794-IE8 provide HART communication?
No HART function is documented for 1794-IE8. Rockwell uses separate HART-capable catalog numbers, so do not infer HART from the analog signal range.
What determines whether Allen-Bradley 1794-IE8 can capture coordinated analog changes?
Evaluate its 256 µs all-channel conversion, current/voltage step response, programmed scaling, source impedance, and the controller's scan and network update times together.
Why might Allen-Bradley 1794-IE8 readings become unstable or inaccurate after replacement?
Verify each channel's voltage-or-current selection, 2-wire, 3-wire, or 4-wire sensor connection, 24 V DC external supply, terminal-base wiring, shield and grounding practice, source commons, and controller scaling. The inputs are single-ended and nonisolated, so wiring or ground-potential errors can affect measurement quality.
