More Information

Overview Manuals Specifications Network & Installation Diagnostics & Migration Application
  • Connects a POINT I/O assembly to a ControlNet network
  • Supports redundant ControlNet media connections
  • Manages scheduled and unscheduled data between ControlNet and POINTBus

1734-ACNR is the communications adapter at the head of a compatible Allen-Bradley POINT I/O assembly.

Reliable replacement depends on the adapter series, node address, network schedule, media layout, POINT I/O module order, firmware, and controller ownership.

A controlled commissioning test should verify both ControlNet channels, POINTBus power, every I/O connection, diagnostics, and recovery after a power cycle.

Availability: Rockwell Automation shows End of Life with a published discontinuation date of March 31, 2027; availability is confirmed during quotation.

  • Connects POINT I/O to ControlNet through redundant network-media connectors
  • Supplies up to 1 A of 5 V DC POINTBus power to the local I/O assembly
  • Supports up to five rack connections and twenty direct connections within the documented adapter limits
  • Record and restore the rotary-switch node address
  • Verify ControlNet taps, trunk cables, terminators and redundant-media routing
  • Install supported POINT I/O modules in the documented order and power budget
  • Use adapter and network status indicators with controller diagnostics
  • Validate scheduled connections and unscheduled messaging after replacement
  • Treat migration to 1734-AENTR as an engineered network conversion, not a direct media swap
  • Remote POINT I/O stations connected to a ControlNet controller
  • ControlNet installations requiring redundant network media at the I/O adapter
  • POINT I/O assemblies combining rack-optimized digital data with direct analog or specialty-module connections
Description
1734-ACNR is an Allen-Bradley POINT I/O ControlNet adapter. It exchanges data between a ControlNet network and POINT I/O modules on the local POINTBus and provides redundant ControlNet media connections.

The adapter includes rotary network-address switches, status indicators, and a network access port. The official manual distinguishes controller compatibility by adapter series and requires Series C POINT I/O modules or later for the documented configuration.

Before replacement, record the adapter series, node address, ControlNet schedule, network topology, media redundancy, POINT I/O module order, configuration ownership, firmware, power arrangement, and the exact replacement engineering plan.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Does 1734-ACNR support redundant ControlNet cabling?
Yes. Its two ControlNet connectors support redundant media when the network is designed, terminated, scheduled, and tested according to the ControlNet rules.
Can 1734-ACNR be replaced without recording the node address?
No. Record the rotary-switch setting, scheduled connection, scanner ownership, firmware, and the complete POINT I/O layout before removal.
Why might 1734-ACNR be visible but POINT I/O data remain unavailable?
Check POINTBus power, module order, chassis-size configuration, connection ownership, schedule, firmware compatibility, and any module or network-status faults.
Can a PLC-5 or SLC controller use every 1734-ACNR revision?
No. The official manual distinguishes adapter series and controller compatibility; confirm the installed adapter series and scanner architecture before substitution.
What should be checked when only one 1734-ACNR ControlNet channel fails?
Inspect the affected connector, tap, trunk, terminator, cable routing, shield and media-status indicators, then validate redundancy by an approved network test.
Why can 1734-ACNR reject an additional I/O connection even though the POINTBus modules are powered?
The adapter has separate connection limits for rack-optimized and direct connections. Check the number and type of configured connections and the controller project; powered modules do not prove that another ControlNet connection is available.
When is an additional POINT I/O expansion power supply needed with 1734-ACNR?
Add the documented expansion supply when the total POINTBus load of the installed modules exceeds the adapter’s available 5 V DC, 1 A capacity or when the physical assembly requires a new powered segment. Calculate the load from the exact installed module list.
