Overview Manuals Input & Counter Matching Relay Output Groups Expansion & DH-485 Application
  • Use 24 VDC sourcing field devices with the controller's 18 sinking inputs
  • Reserve input 0 for its documented high-speed counter behavior when that function is enabled
  • Wire the 12 relay outputs through their four isolated voltage groups

1747-L30C is an Allen-Bradley SLC 500 fixed hardware controller for compact discrete-control systems.

It combines 18 sinking 24 VDC inputs, an input 0 high-speed counter function, 12 AC/DC relay outputs and a 1K-instruction program capacity.

Before installation or replacement, verify AC line power, field-device polarity, relay-group commons, DH-485 program data and optional expansion compatibility.

  • Connect sourcing devices to the 10–30 VDC sinking input circuits
  • Use the 4 VDC maximum off-state limit for input 0 and the 5 VDC limit for the other inputs
  • Keep input 0 wiring suitable for the high-speed counter signal rather than a routine status point
  • Maintain the four isolated output-group supplies and commons shown in the official diagram
  • Keep each relay load within 5–265 VAC or 5–125 VDC and the published current limits
  • Apply load suppression where required to protect relay contacts from inductive transients
  • Use no more than the two documented expansion positions and validate module compatibility
  • Calculate expansion backplane loading from the fixed controller's available power
  • Preserve the DH-485 node settings, ladder program, data values and force status before exchange
  • Compact standalone machine sequencing with mixed 24 VDC inputs and relay-switched loads
  • Pulse or event counting through the dedicated input 0 high-speed counter function
  • Small SLC 500 control cells exchanging programming and status data over DH-485
Description
1747-L30C is an Allen-Bradley SLC 500 fixed hardware controller for compact discrete-control systems.

The controller combines 18 sinking 24 VDC inputs, a dedicated high-speed counter function on input 0 and 12 relay outputs whose isolated groups can switch different application voltages within the published ratings.

Before replacement, confirm the fixed-controller catalog number, AC line power, sinking input polarity, relay-group commons, DH-485 program backup and any two-slot expansion hardware.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can 1747-L30C be wired to 24 VDC sourcing field sensors?
Yes. Its field inputs are sinking inputs, so the connected devices must source current into the input terminals. Confirm the DC common arrangement and polarity shown in the 1747-L30C wiring diagram before energizing the circuit.
Can the four relay-output groups on 1747-L30C switch different voltages?
Yes. The official wiring diagram states that the output groups are isolated, allowing different group voltages within the published relay ratings. Keep each group common, conductor segregation, protective device and load suppression appropriate to its circuit.
Why should input 0 on 1747-L30C not be treated like the other 17 inputs?
Input 0 also serves the high-speed counter function and has a different guaranteed off-state boundary from the other inputs. Match its source waveform, common and input configuration to the counter application instead of copying an ordinary discrete-input circuit.
Can any two SLC 500 modules be installed beside 1747-L30C in the optional two-slot expansion chassis?
No. The chassis provides only two positions and uses the fixed controller's backplane power; module compatibility and current loading must be checked. Rockwell documentation also excludes specific specialty modules from fixed-controller expansion, so the exact two catalog numbers must be validated.
Is 1747-L30D a direct replacement for 1747-L30C because both have 18 sinking inputs?
No. 1747-L30C uses relay outputs, while 1747-L30D uses triac outputs. Load voltage, leakage, minimum current, switching speed, surge behavior and output-group wiring all change, so the replacement requires a circuit review.
Why can a 1747-L30C relay indicator turn on while the connected load remains off?
The ladder result does not supply field power. Check the relevant isolated output group's external supply and common, protective device, terminal wiring, load continuity and relay contact condition, then verify that the load stays within the AC/DC contact rating.
What must be recovered before replacing a 1747-L30C whose DH-485 program is no longer documented?
Obtain an upload of the running program when possible, including data-table values, I/O forces, communications settings and memory-module status. Also photograph the four relay-group commons and input commons; a program alone cannot reconstruct those field-voltage boundaries.
