Features:
- Ideal for differential expansion and rotor expansion measurement on large steam turbine generators
- Suitable for harsh turbine casing environments
- Certified for Division 1 (intrinsically safe) and Division 2 (non‑incendive) installations
The 330851-02-000-070-10-00-05 is specifically designed for differential expansion (DE) and rotor expansion (RX) measurements on large steam turbine generators. The turbine rotor and stator (casing) expand at different rates during startup and load changes. This differential expansion can exceed the linear range of standard 8 mm or 25 mm proximity probes. The 3300 XL 50 mm probe provides a linear range of 27.9 mm (1100 mils) – the longest of any Bently Nevada eddy current transducer. The linear range extends from 1.3 mm to 29.2 mm from the target, producing an output voltage of approximately -1.5 to -12.5 Vdc. The average scale factor is 394 mV/mm (10 mV/mil).
Steam turbine casings can reach extreme temperatures, especially near the high‑pressure section. The 330851-02-000-070-10-00-05 is built to survive these conditions. The probe can operate continuously at 200°C (392°F) and withstand intermittent temperatures up to 250°C (482°F) for less than 24 hours (e.g., during turbine startup or transient events). The probe tip is made of Polyphenylene Sulfide (PPS), a high‑temperature thermoplastic. The case is AISI 304 stainless steel. The probe has both front and rear seals, combined with a High Temperature FluidLoc cable, to prevent steam or moisture from entering the probe tip.
The 330851-02-000-070-10-00-05 carries hazardous area approvals for use in explosive atmospheres. The “05” suffix indicates multiple approvals: ATEX (Europe), IECEx (international), and CSA (North America). The probe can be installed in Division 1 (Zone 0) intrinsically safe systems when used with zener barriers or galvanic isolators per drawing 141092. It can also be used in Division 2 (Zone 2) non‑incendive systems without barriers per drawing 140979. The temperature classification depends on the ambient temperature: T5 (-35°C to +85°C) or T4 (-51°C to +100°C). The load parameters (capacitance, inductance, L/R ratio) must not exceed specified limits for the gas group (IIC, IIB, IIA).
The 330851-02-000-070-10-00-05 Bently Nevada Proximity Probe may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL)by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Power Generation & Heavy Utilities: Safeguards large-scale power generators, industrial gas turbines, and utility-class.
- Petrochemical & Refining: Monitors critical high-horsepower turbo-machinery, multi-stage process compressors, and large feedstock pumps.
- Heavy Process Manufacturing: Deployed across mining hoists, large marine propulsion systems, and capital-intensive metal rolling mill machinery.
- Extended Linear Envelope: Provides a wide 12.7 mm (500 mils) linear range with a normalized scale factor of 0.787 V/mm (20 mV/mil). This allows the sensor to record large mechanical shifting without clipping or losing signal calibration.
- dvanced Environmental Seals: Equipped with native front and rear viton seals and FluidLoc high-temperature cable structures. These components block process steam, moisture, and hot synthetic lubricants from shorting out the probe tip.
- Extreme Thermal Resilience: Functions continuously in operating environments ranging from -35°C to +200°C (-31°F to +392°F), and survives short-term exposure up to +250°C (+482°F).
- Ramp & Collar Differential Expansion (DE): Installed inside steam turbines to continuously measure Differential Expansion. It tracks the physical expansion variance between the fast-heating turbine rotor and the slower-heating outer stator/casing to prevent catastrophic internal blade-rubbing.
- Dual-Ramp Long-Stroke Measurement: Arranged in pairs looking at a physical shaft collar or tapered ramp. This setup monitors absolute axial growth during multi-day turbine start-up and shutdown cycles.
- Large Structural Structural Shift Monitoring: Tracks slow-moving thrust bearing or housing positional displacement under extreme high-torque loads.
