Features:
- 84661-49 provides 49-foot armored 2-conductor 22 AWG shielded cable for Velomitor sensor connectivity.
- Stainless steel armor resists crushing and abrasion; moisture-resistant connector prevents ingress at sensor end.
- Terminal lugs at monitor end; supports cable runs up to 305 meters without signal degradation.
The 84661-49 is engineered for permanent installation in demanding industrial environments where standard cables would quickly fail. The stainless steel armor provides a robust protective layer that resists crushing from heavy equipment, abrasion against sharp metal edges, cutting from tools, and impact damage from falling objects. This makes the 84661-49 ideal for turbomachinery monitoring applications where cables are routed along machine frames, through cable trays with other heavy cables, or in areas with foot traffic. The armor also provides protection against rodents that may gnaw on unprotected cables.
The 84661-49 uses 22 AWG (0.5 mm²) shielded twisted conductors to ensure clean, noise-free transmission of the low-level accelerometer signal. The Velomitor sensor produces a voltage output proportional to casing velocity, and these relatively low-level signals are susceptible to electromagnetic interference from nearby sources such as variable frequency drives, motor starters, large contactors, and radio transmitters. The twisted pair configuration cancels out common-mode noise induced equally on both conductors, while the overall shield provides an additional barrier against external electric fields. The shield also prevents the cable from radiating noise that could affect nearby instrumentation.
The 84661-49 is terminated with terminal lugs at the monitor end, simplifying permanent wiring to Bently Nevada monitors and data acquisition systems. Terminal lugs provide a secure, low-resistance connection when fastened to screw-type terminal blocks, eliminating the need for field stripping and tinning of small-gauge wire. This reduces installation time and the risk of wiring errors. The 2-conductor configuration accommodates the signal and ground connections typical of Velomitor sensors. The cable can be ordered in custom lengths from 3 to 96 feet in 1-foot increments by specifying the desired length in the part number.
The 84661-49 Bently Nevada Armored Cable may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Power Generation: Relays seismic vibration signals from gas, steam, and hydro turbines, as well as industrial generators.
- Oil & Gas / Petrochemical: Used on critical balance-of-plant machinery like centrifugal compressors, turbo-expanders, and large-scale pumps.
- Heavy Manufacturing: Deployed in paper mills, steel processing plants, and mining facilities on large motor-driven fans, blowers, and gearboxes.
- Piping & Exhaust Systems: Connects sensors monitoring structural and aero-derivative piping vibration caused by high-pressure fluid loops.
- Mechanical Protection: Encased in a rugged metal armor sheath that provides exceptional resistance against physical crushing, sharp-edge abrasion, and rodent punctures.
- Thermal Performance: Typically handles continuous operating temperatures ranging from -40°C to +105°C (-40°F to 221°F), surviving deployment near hot exhaust casings or cold-climate installations.
- Chemical & Moisture Resilience: Features a moisture-resistant female connector boot at the sensor end to lock out water, steam, synthetic oils, and corrosive industrial solvents.
- Signal Integrity (EMI/RFI Shielding): The twisted-pair geometry combined with a high-density (typically 90%) tinned copper braid shield prevents electromagnetic interference. This keeps the low-voltage 4-20mA or AC velocity signals pristine across its 49-foot span.
- Hardware Integration: Connects the field sensor directly to major machinery protection racks, such as the Bently Nevada 3500 Series or the next-generation Orbit 60 Distributed Protection System.
- Diagnostic & Safety Automation: By providing noise-free real-time vibration metrics, it enables the control system to detect anomalies like unbalance, misalignment, or bearing wear. The connected monitor can then trigger early alarms or initiate an automatic emergency machinery shutdown (Trip) via safety-certified relays (API 670 / SIL 2 compliant systems).
