Overview
Features:
- Stainless steel armor provides excellent mechanical protection against crushing, abrasion, cutting, and impact damage, making the 84510-50 suitable for industrial installations where cables are exposed to physical abuse.
- 22 AWG twisted shielded conductors minimize electromagnetic interference, ensuring clean velocity signal transmission from Seismoprobe transducers to monitors even in electrically noisy environments with VFDs and motors.
- Features a 2-socket moisture-resistant female connector at the transducer end for secure, weatherproof connection to 9200/74712 Seismoprobes, with terminal lugs at the monitor end for permanent wiring to terminal blocks.
The 84510-50 is engineered for permanent installation in demanding industrial environments where standard cables would quickly fail. The stainless steel armor provides a robust protective layer that resists crushing from heavy objects, abrasion against sharp metal edges, cutting from tools, and impact damage from falling items. This makes the 84510-50 ideal for turbine decks, compressor stations, and other machinery monitoring applications where cables are routed along machine frames, through cable trays with other heavy cables, or in areas with foot traffic.
The 84510-50 uses 22 AWG twisted shielded conductors to ensure clean, noise-free transmission of the low-level velocity signal from the Seismoprobe transducer. Velocity transducers produce an analog voltage output that is directly proportional to casing vibration velocity—typically 20 mV/mm/s (500 mV/in/s). This relatively low-level signal is susceptible to electromagnetic interference from nearby sources such as variable frequency drives (VFDs), motor starters, large contactors, and radio transmitters. The twisted pair configuration cancels out common-mode noise induced equally on both conductors, while the overall shield provides an additional barrier against external electric fields.
The 84510-50 is designed with application-specific terminations that simplify installation and ensure reliable connections. At the transducer end, a 2-socket moisture-resistant female connector mates directly with the 9200 or 74712 Seismoprobe's male connector. This connector is keyed to prevent incorrect mating and features a threaded coupling that secures the connection against vibration-induced loosening. The moisture-resistant design prevents ingress of oil, water, and dust, which is critical for long-term reliability in turbine and compressor monitoring applications. At the monitor end, the 84510-50 is terminated with terminal lugs—stripped and tinned conductors ready for insertion into screw-type terminal blocks on Bently Nevada monitors (3300, 3500 series) or vibration data collectors.
The 84510-50 Bently Nevada Seismoprobe Transducer may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Machinery Protection Systems (TSI): Routes low-level continuous analog signals—such as shaft radial vibration, axial/thrust position, Keyphasor phase markers, and rotational speed—from the machinery back to the processing racks.
- Critical Rotating Assets: Extensively used on utility-scale steam turbines, industrial gas turbines, multi-stage centrifugal compressors, hydro-turbines, and large electric motors.
- Severe Industrial Environments: Heavily deployed throughout oil & gas extraction sites, petrochemical refineries, thermal power plants, metallurgical mills, and marine operations.
- High-Density EMI/RFI Shielding: Built with a high-coverage braided metallic shield to block electromagnetic or radio frequency interference generated by nearby high-voltage motors, power transformers, and variable frequency drives (VFDs), preserving a noise-free signal path.
- Chemical & Thermal Resistance: Outfitted with a premium heavy-duty PVC or TPE insulating jacket that withstands abrasive industrial oils, chemical splashes, and mechanical friction while retaining strict electrical characteristics within a wide temperature range of -40°C to +85°C.
- Bend Radius Limits: During conduit or cable tray routing, strictly adhere to the minimum bend radius specifications (typically at least 8 to 10 times the cable’s outer diameter). Never force hard kinks or sharp 90-degree folds into the cable, as this can fracture the delicate internal copper wire cores or the shielding braid.
- Single-Point Grounding (Core Safety Rule): The internal shield wire must be left floated (cut back and insulated) at the field junction box end
- Conduit Separation: The 84510-50 is a low-power instrumentation cable. It must be segregated into different cable trays or kept at least 30 cm away from high-voltage 220V/380V industrial power distribution lines to minimize inductive noise bleeding.
