More Information

Overview Manuals Ground Detection EXAM Communication Channel Assignment Insulation Test

Features:

  • Detects field leakage resistance on the ac and dc sides of the generator field.
  • Works with the EXAM sense resistor and a dedicated control-and-sense cable.
  • Returns the conditioned measurement through a fiber-optic path to EISB.
Redundant controls use three EGDM modules assigned as Controller, Master 1 and Master 2.

P2 program pins establish the role of each module in the detector set.

The selected master generates the low-frequency drive used by the field-side sensing network.

Ground Detection for IS200EGDMH1A

  • Measured path: Field leakage resistance from the generator field circuit to ground.
  • Excitation method: A low-frequency square wave is applied through the EXAM sense resistor.
  • Return signal: EXAM returns an attenuated differential voltage to the detector module.
  • Alarm path: The converted signal travels through EISB for DSPX monitoring.

EXAM Communication for IS200EGDMH1A

  • Cable: One nine-conductor cable carries control and sense signals between EGDM and EXAM.
  • Drive path: The selected EGDM master supplies the square-wave test signal.
  • Sense path: Voltage developed across the EXAM resistor returns to EGDM.
  • Isolation: The signal-conditioning supply is isolated for the high common-mode environment.

Channel Assignment for IS200EGDMH1A

  • Controller role: The C module coordinates which master supplies the detector drive.
  • Master roles: M1 and M2 provide redundant detector channels.
  • Programming: P2 connector pins define each installed module assignment.
  • Transfer: Controller C can command M2 when the M1 detector channel is unavailable.

Insulation Test for IS200EGDMH1A

  • Preparation: Keep field-circuit boundaries and channel labels identified before testing.
  • Cable check: Verify the EXAM control-and-sense cable on the assigned detector channel.
  • Optical check: Confirm the oscillator command and measurement return on their correct fibers.
  • Acceptance: Prove that the assigned DSPX channel monitors and alarms the applied test condition.
Description
The General Electric IS200EGDMH1A Exciter Ground Detector Module supplies active field-to-ground sensing in redundant EX2100 excitation controls. It is mounted in the EPBP power backplane beside the control power supplies.

Three IS200EGDMH1A modules can be assigned as Controller, Master 1 and Master 2. Program pins on connector P2 establish the channel identity, and controller C selects which master provides the detector drive.

A fiber command is converted by IS200EGDMH1A into the low-frequency square wave applied to the EXAM sense network. The differential return is conditioned and converted to an optical feedback signal for EISB and DSPX processing.

Technical notes
IS200EGDMH1A channel identity is set by P2 program pins. Preserve the EXAM cable and optical path for the same C, M1 or M2 position.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
How can IS200EGDMH1A channel mix-ups be prevented during replacement?
Keep the C, M1 and M2 P2 assignments, EXAM cable labels and optical paths matched to IS200EGDMH1A before removal.
Why can IS200EGDMH1A have power but return no ground signal?
IS200EGDMH1A also depends on the EXAM sense cable and the fiber path to EISB; verify both directions, not only board power.
What should be checked when IS200EGDMH1A alarms become unstable?
Inspect the IS200EGDMH1A nine-conductor EXAM connection, optical connectors and channel assignment before changing alarm settings.
Where does IS200EGDMH1A belong in a redundant EX2100 control?
Three IS200EGDMH1A modules occupy EPBP positions for controller C, Master 1 and Master 2.
Can IS200EGDMH1A move between C, M1 and M2 slots without review?
No. The IS200EGDMH1A P2 program-pin assignment must match the destination channel before return to service.
What proves that IS200EGDMH1A is sensing the complete field-ground path?
Test IS200EGDMH1A with the EXAM loop intact and confirm the returned signal reaches the assigned DSPX alarm channel.
Which nearby hardware should be checked with IS200EGDMH1A?
Include the EXAM attenuator and EISB optical link because IS200EGDMH1A uses both to complete detection and reporting.
