Features:
- Combines sixteen discrete inputs and sixteen discrete outputs in one Series Three I/O position.
- Uses one user-supplied 24 VDC source for input sensing and output load power.
- Connects field circuits through a 36-position screw-terminal faceplate connector.
The input half accepts individual ON/OFF signals from devices such as limit switches, pushbuttons and relay contacts. The output half operates discrete loads including relay coils, motor starters and indicator lamps.
Because the module represents thirty-two I/O points, its controller assignment extends across thirty-two consecutive references rather than stopping at the sixteen references normally associated with one slot.
Each group of eight output circuits shares an internal 5 A fuse, and permitted loading changes with ambient temperature. Wiring checks therefore need to consider the affected output group as well as the individual field point.
Apter Power can support documentation review and sourcing for the General Electric IC630MDL304 24 VDC Sink Input/Output Module used in established Series Three I/O systems.

How the two signal paths work
- Input sensing: The sixteen input circuits receive individual discrete ON/OFF states from user-supplied field devices.
- Output switching: The sixteen output circuits switch user-supplied 24 VDC loads rather than providing isolated load power.
- State thresholds: Input operation depends on the field voltage crossing the published ON and OFF thresholds.
- Path isolation: Input and output behavior can be checked independently when one side of the module operates and the other does not.
Thirty-two-point controller assignment
- Reference span: IC630MDL304 consumes thirty-two consecutive I/O references even though it occupies one physical I/O slot.
- Local block: The first sixteen references correspond to the allocation for that slot.
- Extended block: The next sixteen references continue into the following reference range and must remain free of conflicts.
- Rack capacity: For an eight-slot base filled with 32-point modules, the documented capacity reaches 256 I/O points from references 000 through 377 in octal notation.
Output loading across cabinet temperature
- Thermal dependence: The allowable number of energized outputs changes with ambient temperature and the current carried by each circuit.
- Full-current region: All thirty-two points may be used at the full 0.5 A per circuit only within the lower-temperature region of the applicable derating curve.
- Higher temperatures: At higher ambient conditions, either circuit current or the number of simultaneous energized points must be reduced.
- Load review: The installed load pattern should remain within the applicable derating curve before a fully populated module is commissioned.
Faceplate terminal organization
- Group layout: The 36-position connector divides the input and output conductors into groups of eight points.
- Terminal assignment: The upper sixteen numbered terminals are assigned to inputs, while the lower sixteen are assigned to outputs.
- Conductor capacity: Each terminal accepts one No. 12 AWG conductor or two No. 14 AWG conductors.
- Output commons: Two output commons divide the load circuits into separately fused groups, so terminal position and common assignment should be recorded before moving wiring.
