Features:
- Basic one-word ladder functions execute in 0.5 microseconds.
- A battery-backed real-time clock and calendar are accessible to the user program.
- Removable memory cartridges retain user logic and I/O configuration for transfer or storage.
The three-position keyswitch lets maintenance personnel place the processor in RUN, enter OIU operation for monitored access, or halt scanning and disable outputs in STOP.
Operator-interface functions expose I/O states, accumulated timer and counter values, data registers, password access, and program-controlled messages without changing the physical rack arrangement.
Communication behavior is governed from the front of the module, where address, signaling mode, and supported data rate can be selected for the lower host port.

IC655CPU500 Base-Unit Integration
- CPU position: IC655CPU500 occupies the processor position immediately beside the power supply in a Series Five CPU base unit.
- Rack choices: The processor can operate in a six-I/O-slot IC655CHS506 base or an eight-I/O-slot IC655CHS508 base.
- Power budget: Its 1500 mA internal demand must be included before selecting the remaining modules for the base-unit load.
- Program storage: Compatible RAM, EPROM, or EEPROM memory cartridges provide the removable program-storage medium used by the processor.
Two Connectors, One IC655CPU500 Port
- Operator interface: The upper 15-pin RS-232 connector serves the Series Five OIU and receives access priority when both connectors are active.
- Programming path: Logicmaster 5 equipment connects through the lower 25-pin interface, which supports both RS-232 and RS-422 signaling.
- Network role: The built-in CCM2-compatible slave port allows a host computer or Series Six Plus PLC to supervise Series Five data exchange.
- Port setup: Four front switches choose RS-232 or RS-422 operation, the CCM address behavior, and a supported transfer rate from 300 to 19,200 bps.
Using IC655CPU500 Without Rewiring the Rack
- RUN selection: Normal scanning continues with field outputs enabled while the keyswitch remains in the RUN position.
- OIU selection: Operators can observe I/O points, timer and counter accumulations, and data registers through the dedicated interface mode.
- Protected access: The OIU functions permit login and logout when a password has been assigned to the control system.
- Message display: Text prepared in Logicmaster 5 can be presented on the two-line Series Five operator-interface display under program control.
Reading the IC655CPU500 Front Indicators
- Processor health: The red CPU indicator distinguishes a processor malfunction or watchdog timeout from normal execution.
- Scan-stopping fault: DIAG illuminates when an internal condition such as program parity or a fatal I/O fault halts scanning.
- Stored-program warning: BATT reports a weak backup source, while MEM identifies an error in program memory.
- External paths: Separate I/O and COMM indicators direct troubleshooting toward field exchange or the active communication route.
