Features:
- S220YAICS1A provides 10 analog inputs and 4 analog outputs with configurable voltage/current ranges for safety applications.
- Operates on 28V DC supply with 0.49A max current and includes 24V transmitter power up to 21mA.
- Hazardous location certified with compatibility for Euro-style or barrier-type terminal boards in Mark VIeS systems.
The IS220YAICS1A delivers extensive analog signal processing capability for safety-critical turbine control applications. It features 10 analog input channels: the first eight channels are software-configurable for either voltage (-10V to +10V) or current (0-20mA) signals, allowing flexible connection to a wide variety of field sensors such as pressure transmitters, temperature transducers, and position feedback devices. The remaining two input channels (9-10) are dedicated to current signals (1-20mA), typically used for 4-20mA loop-powered transmitters.
The IS220YAICS1A includes an integrated analog transmitter power supply, eliminating the need for external power sources for 2-wire loop-powered transmitters. This built-in supply delivers a nominal 24.0V DC (with a range of 22.8V to 25.2V) and can provide up to 21mA of current, sufficient to power multiple transmitters connected to the analog input channels. This feature simplifies field wiring by allowing direct connection of 2-wire transmitters without requiring separate power supplies or external loop power modules. The integrated power supply also ensures that the loop power is properly referenced to the module's ground, improving common-mode noise rejection and measurement accuracy.
The IS220YAICS1A is specifically certified for installation in hazardous (classified) locations, making it suitable for use in explosive atmospheres such as refineries, chemical plants, and offshore platforms where flammable gases or vapors may be present. The module is approved for use with multiple terminal board options to accommodate different field wiring requirements. For Euro-style box-type terminal blocks, compatible boards include IS200STA1S1A, IS200STA1S2A, IS400STA1S1A, and IS400STA1S2A. For barrier-type terminal blocks, compatible boards include IS200TBAIS1C and IS400TBAIS1C. These terminal boards provide secure, vibration-resistant connections for field wiring.
The IS220YAICS1A GE Analog I/O Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond
End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Emergency Shutdown (ESD) Systems: Monitored analog variables (e.g., pipeline pressure, storage tank levels) trigger automatic trip valves if thresholds cross safety limits.
- Gas and Steam Turbine Protection: Monitors critical turbine metrics—such as combustion over-temperature, high casing vibrations, gas leakage, and fuel line hydraulic pressures.
- Hazardous Environmental Monitoring: Installed inside wind turbine nacelles, chemical refineries, and offshore drilling rigs. Its hazardous area certification (HazLoc) permits safe deployment alongside explosive or toxic atmospheres.
- Gas Detection Arrays: Configured as a high-density, low-latency node processing analog inputs from specialized industrial gas sensors and flame detectors.
- Integrated Firmware Delivery: The module's active board-level firmware is packaged directly inside the overall GE ControlST™ / ToolboxST™ software suite updates. It cannot be flashed using third-party utility tools.
- Update Execution via ToolboxST: Firmware updates are pushed from the engineering workstation to the pack over the dual-redundant IONet (I/O Network) fabric. The update wizard inside ToolboxST checks revision numbers to prevent unauthorized or corrupted binaries from flashing onto the safe processor.
- Hardware Mapping: The card is bound via software to compatible safety terminal blocks, including the IS200STAIS1A, IS400STAIS1A, or IS200TBAIS1C. The network topology assigns unique IP addresses to map the 16 high-accuracy analog channels into the system database (SDB).
- Channel Profile Templates: Engineers program individual channel variables using pre-configured loop templates inside ToolboxST. Parameters include signal type (e.g., 0-10 V DC or 4-20 mA), hardware filters, and scale mappings to Engineering Units (EU).
- Advanced Safety Diagnostics Setup: Advanced thresholds are parameterized in software to monitor field loop health. Configuration allows the module to auto-detect and alarm on open-circuits, short-circuits, overcurrent states, and loop faults.
