- Accommodates Dual Redundant 24 VDC Power Input with Keyed Slot Protection and Convection Cooling Architecture
The ICS TRIPLEX T8100 Trusted Controller Chassis serves as the central structural and electrical backbone in a Trusted TMR system, providing secure mechanical mounting and triple-redundant backplane communication to all modules within the enclosure. It maintains a dedicated Inter-Module Bus (IMB) operating at up to 150 Mbaud, distributing synchronized data paths through the backplane to support steady-state operation of the dual TMR processors and all associated I/O modules. Seamless communication integrity is inherent to the T8100 design; however, using an optional dual redundant power configuration will allow continuous chassis operation in the event of a primary 24 VDC source failure. The T8100 chassis has made improvements in several areas over previous Trusted system enclosures, including standardized 19-inch rack compatibility and comprehensive keying mechanisms to prevent incorrect module insertion.
The T8100 provides essential physical and electrical infrastructure common to the entire Trusted rack, and is a critical component of the control path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall TMR system. One T8100 chassis is required per Trusted controller rack, as it establishes the module slot configuration and IMB topology. The T8100 occupies a 6U height position (266.7 mm) in a standard 19-inch rack and is always equipped with processor modules in the left-side triple-width slots, while I/O and interface modules occupy the single-width positions to the right.
For dual redundant power applications, the Trusted System requires a second 24 VDC power source connected to the T8100 redundant power input terminals located on the chassis top panel. In addition to standard single-supply operation, the redundant configuration also performs automatic load sharing and failover. The T8100 dual power configuration executes power management using the internal distribution circuitry specified in the Trusted system options. Using this method, the redundant power system continually monitors the health of both incoming 20–32 VDC supplies. If the system detects that the primary power feed is no longer providing stable input outside configured voltage tolerance levels, it will automatically transfer the chassis load to the secondary supply and maintain full backplane communication without interruption.
The T8100 ICS TRIPLEX Trusted Controller Chassis may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
