Features:

  • Provides a rugged, steel mounting platform and backplane for up to 8 Foxboro 200 Series I/O modules, organizing field wiring and simplifying system architecture
  • Accepts redundant 24 VDC power inputs (10A) to ensure high availability for critical I/O functions . It communicates with the controller via the redundant 2 Mbps Fieldbus
  • Engineered for extreme industrial environments, it operates reliably in temperatures ranging from -40 °C to +70 °C and humidity levels up to 95% non-condensing
The P0914XB is a vertical baseplate designed to house up to eight Foxboro 200 Series Fieldbus Modules (FBMs). It acts as the physical backbone of a local I/O station, providing a standardized backplane for communication and power distribution. Instead of wiring each I/O point back to a central panel, the baseplate allows field wiring to terminate directly on the FBMs plugged into it.

Understanding the revision history of the P0914XB is essential for successful system upgrades. This baseplate functions reliably with older CP60 processors across all revisions. However, a critical technical barrier exists for newer hardware: Revision D and earlier are incompatible with modern FCP270 or ZCP270 processors . This is due to "bleed-through" issues on the circuit board during high-bandwidth communication.

Industrial process applications are often located in harsh, un-conditioned environments. The P0914XB is built to withstand these conditions, featuring a wide operating temperature range of -40 °C to +70 °C . It is certified for Class G3 (harsh) environments, meaning it resists corrosion and humidity (5 to 95% non-condensing). This robustness allows it to be installed in outdoor remote I/O huts, on offshore platforms, or in hot machinery spaces without requiring expensive climate-controlled enclosures.

The P0914XB Foxboro Fieldbus Modules may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL)by the manufacturer (OEM).

Description
The P0914XB is a vertical baseplate in the Foxboro I/A Series, designed to host 200 Series Fieldbus Modules (FBMs). It features 8 slots, allowing up to 8 I/O modules to be installed in a single chassis. It is constructed of steel and operates at 24 VDC with a 10 A rating.

When using the P0914XB, engineers can mount it vertically inside a control cabinet. It provides the Fieldbus connection between the FBMs and the Field Control Processor (FCP). A key limitation exists: older revisions (Rev A-D) of the P0914XB are incompatible with the newer FCP270/ZCP270 processors due to backplane timing issues and signal bleed-through . Revision E or later is required for modern processors.

The P0914XB operates in a wide temperature range from -40 °C to +70 °C and withstands 5 % to 95 % non-condensing humidity . The baseplate accepts redundant 24 VDC power inputs, ensuring high availability for critical I/O. It is typically used with a Field Control Processor (FCP) like CP60, FCP270, or ZCP270 . It communicates with the system via a redundant 2 Mbps module Fieldbus.

For legacy Foxboro system maintenance, the P0914XB remains a critical component for 200 Series I/O upgrades. However, upgrades to modern FCPs often require replacing an older Rev D baseplate with a newer Rev E or replacing it entirely with current horizontal baseplates like the P0926JM . The revision number is found on a white sticker on the back of the unit .

Technical notes
The P0914XB has a critical revision limitation. Revisions A through D are incompatible with modern FCP270 or ZCP270 processors. If you are upgrading a CP60 system, you must use Revision E or later, or replace the unit with a newer P0926JM baseplate .

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Is the P0914XB compatible with the FCP270 processor?
It depends on the revision. P0914XB Rev A-D is NOT compatible with FCP270/ZCP270 due to signal "bleed-through" . You require Rev E or later. Alternatively, replace the baseplate with the newer P0926JM vertical baseplate .
Can I use P0914XB for Sequence of Events (SOE) recording?
Older versions lack "TimeStrobe" capability. If you need GPS synchronization and SOE with a CP270, the P0914XB is not suitable. You must upgrade to the newer horizontal baseplate: P0926HT.
Can I reuse my existing power cables with the P0914XB?
Possibly not. Older baseplates use a different style than newer units. If you replace a very old baseplate (or upgrade to the new P0926JM), you must also replace the 24 VDC power cables, as the connector types differ.
How do I check the revision of my P0914XB?
The revision number (e.g., Rev D or Rev E) and part number are printed on a Foxboro white sticker located on the back side of the baseplate . You may need to look behind the assembly, sometimes requiring a mirror or uninstalling the unit to read it.
