Description
The PCS 810 interface module is a flexible component within the Lauer PCS product group, engineered to enhance connectivity in industrial automation setups. Its initial address is set using DIL switches S1 and S2, allowing the PCS 810 to be operated independently of its physical slot position. This addressing flexibility means the PCS810 can be placed in any available module location while still being accessed at the desired memory address, provided the address is divisible by four and not already occupied by RAM or other modules.

In absolute addressing mode, the PCS 810 can be assigned any base address within the automation unit's entire address space, as long as it meets the divisibility-by-four requirement. When used in an expansion unit, the PCS 810 can also be configured for periphery addressing by setting the EG switch on DIL switch S1 to the ON position.

The PCS 810's addressing examples illustrate its practical application in various configurations. For instance, when inserted in an EG-185U expansion unit and operated at initial address F0E0h (PY224), specific DIL switch settings are applied.

Designed for robustness and ease of use, the PCS 810 supports both central and expansion unit installations, offering engineers a reliable interface solution for legacy and modern automation systems.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
How is the initial address of the PCS 810 interface module configured?
The initial address of the PCS 810 is set using DIL switches S1 and S2. The address can be configured in either absolute addressing mode (where the base address must be divisible by 4 and not conflict with existing RAM or modules) or periphery addressing mode (when used in an expansion unit). The physical slot location does not affect the address, providing flexibility in system layout.
Can the PCS 810 be used in an expansion unit, and are there any addressing restrictions?
Yes, the PCS 810 can be installed in an expansion unit such as the EG-185U. When used in this mode, the EG switch on DIL switch S1 must be set to ON. However, it is important to avoid using periphery bytes PYO through PY127, as these addresses are reserved and may interfere with the process image.
What should be considered when installing the PCS 810 in the IM slot of an AG-115U central unit?
If the PCS 810 is placed in the IM slot of an AG-115U and no actual IM module is present, both the IM and EG switches on DIL switch S1 must be set to the ON position to simulate the final plug and save a module location. If the module is not used in the IM slot, the IM switch must be set to OFF to ensure proper operation.
What are examples of typical address settings for the PCS 810 in different system configurations?
The PCS 810 supports various address configurations. For example, when installed in an EG-185U expansion unit at address F0E0h (PY224), specific DIL switch patterns are applied. If placed in the IM slot of an AG-115U at address F0F0h (PY240), or in a standard slot at address F080h (PY128), the switch settings are adjusted accordingly. These examples highlight the module's adaptability to different addressing needs within Siemens automation systems.
