Description
The 8502-BI-DP Bus Interface Module serves as a critical communication link between MTL8000 series I/O modules and a Profibus-DP host system. It acquires data from I/O modules at high speed and supports LAN operation rates of up to 6 Mbaud, allowing the host to respond quickly to control process changes.

In addition to standard cyclic data exchange, the 8502-BI-DP supports Profibus Extended Diagnostics, delivering detailed status information on the module itself, connected I/O modules, and individual channel conditions. This includes detection of events such as alarms, open circuits, and line faults.

The 8502-BI-DP also enables efficient handling of HART data within Profibus-DP networks. HART status and process variables can be included in the cyclic input telegram, and for applications requiring access to multiple HART variables, the module supports a HART "mailbox" method to collect variables on demand.

With robust mechanical and electrical specifications, the 8502-BI-DP ensures reliable operation in demanding industrial settings. It features LED indicators for power, fault, communication, LAN activity, configuration status, and Railbus health. The module supports transmission rates from 9.6 kbaud up to 6 Mbaud, with segment lengths varying according to speed.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
What is the maximum LAN speed supported by the 8502-BI-DP module?
The 8502-BI-DP supports Profibus-DP transmission rates up to 6 Mbaud, with selectable speeds including 9.6, 19.2, 93.75, 187.5, 500 kbaud, and 1.5 Mbaud.
How can the 8502-BI-DP be configured?
The 8502-BI-DP can be configured in three ways: using MTL's 8455-SW-CF software on a PC, via parameterization from a Profibus configurator using a GSD file, or by transferring a configuration from the 8510-NS-MO Node Services Module.
What diagnostic capabilities does the 8502-BI-DP offer?
The 8502-BI-DP supports both Standard and Extended Diagnostics. Extended Diagnostics provide detailed information on module health, I/O channel status, and detect events such as alarms, open circuits, and line faults. Diagnostic telegrams are up to 78 bytes in size.
What are the power requirements for the 8502-BI-DP?
The 8502-BI-DP is powered via the Railbus at 12V DC, with a typical current consumption of 420 mA and a maximum of 520 mA at -40°C. It includes LED indicators for power, fault, communication, LAN activity, configuration status, and Railbus health.
