Features:
- Operates as an independent PROFIBUS DP-Master or configurable DP-Slave without requiring PROFIBUS software on the host VMEbus CPU.
- Combines a 32-bit processor, PBM-ASIC, dualport RAM, and onboard Flash EPROM for reliable high-speed PROFIBUS communication.
- Supports cost-effective integration of distributed PROFIBUS I/O modules and synchronized drive systems with microsecond-level DP-V2 cycle control.
Nautibus VME-PROF-M provides an efficient communication bridge between VMEbus platforms and PROFIBUS field devices used throughout industrial automation systems. The board enables decentralized I/O architectures while reducing dependence on conventional VMEbus I/O hardware. Compatibility with both Mono-Master and Multi-Master configurations offers flexibility for a wide variety of control applications.
The interface combines hardware-based protocol processing with independent firmware execution, allowing PROFIBUS communication to continue without additional software resources from the host CPU. Built-in dualport RAM creates a fast data exchange area between the VMEbus processor and distributed field devices, while EEPROM retains configuration settings for rapid startup after reset. The integrated RS232 interface further simplifies system commissioning and diagnostics.
Nautibus VME-PROF-M is particularly well suited for industrial control cabinets, production lines, motion control systems, and distributed automation networks using PROFIBUS technology. Time-synchronous DP-V2 communication provides precise data exchange for drive applications, while support for configurable DP-Slave operation expands deployment flexibility. Combined with low power requirements and standard VMEbus compatibility, the board offers a practical solution for modernizing and expanding existing VMEbus installations.
The VME-PROF-M Nautibus VMEbus PROFIBUS Interface Card may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Address Mapping: Base address mapping is performed via dual-port RAM, allowing direct reading and writing of the configuration data area.
- File Import: The GSD file needs to be imported into the master station, and the station address and baud rate must be correctly assigned.
- Parameter Fixing: Data is fixed to the onboard EEPROM using the dedicated configuration tool DPKonfig.
- Interrupt Handling: Corresponding service routines are written in the interrupt control register to handle real-time communication.
- Metallurgical Control: Used for high-speed communication between the VME computer and the main PLC in blast furnace control systems.
- Rail Transit: Deployed in rail transit signaling systems to interconnect onboard VME equipment with ground networks.
- Power Automation: Applied to power automation devices, connecting traditional VME main units to distributed networks.
- System Upgrade: Widely used for upgrading and maintaining automated control systems in aging paper or printing production lines.
- Status Indication: Observe the LED indicator status on the front panel to quickly determine network connection faults.
- Buffer Diagnostics: Obtain detailed slave error codes by reading the diagnostic buffer in the dual-port RAM.
- Bus Termination: Check whether the PROFIBUS termination resistor switches are correctly turned on at both ends of the physical link.
- Signal Monitoring: Monitor the bus physical layer signal quality using a standard PROFIBUS message analyzer.
