Overview Manuals Counter Functions Input & Filtering Output Behavior Product Applications

Features:

  • Four fast counters: Measures pulse trains up to 200 kHz.
  • Flexible decoding: Supports direction, individual and two-phase inputs.
  • Eight compare outputs: Converts count thresholds into fast NPN control actions.
AFP2441 is the FP2-HSCT NPN module used when ordinary scanned inputs are too slow for pulse or encoder signals.

Each counter stores a signed 32-bit value and can use ×1, ×2 or ×4 multiplication to match the sensing method.

Fast comparison outputs allow count-based actions to occur without waiting for a complete application-program cycle.

For AFP2441 sourcing, Apter Power can help confirm FP2 rack fit, NPN logic, encoder mode, input filter and comparison-output requirements. Panasonic AFP2441 is listed as FP2 High-Speed Counter Unit.

Description
AFP2441 adds four signed 32-bit high-speed counters to a Panasonic FP2/FP2SH PLC system. It accepts direction, individual and two-phase pulse inputs up to 200 kHz, allowing the controller to track encoder position, machine cycles or product counts without relying on the normal PLC scan.

AFP2441 also provides eight comparison outputs and selectable ×1, ×2 or ×4 counting, turning measured pulses into timely machine actions. Adjustable input filtering helps balance noise immunity against response speed when wiring real sensors and encoders in an industrial cabinet.
Technical notes
AFP2441 is the NPN-output FP2-HSCT version; do not substitute the PNP AFP2451 from appearance alone. Confirm 24 VDC input levels, encoder wiring, counting mode, multiplication factor and comparison-output logic before startup. Panasonic’s FP7 alternative requires replacement of all FP2 units, so it is not a drop-in module exchange.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Is AFP2441 the NPN or PNP FP2 counter module?
AFP2441 is the NPN-output FP2-HSCT module; the PNP high-speed counter is a different part number and must not be substituted by appearance.
How fast can AFP2441 count?
It supports up to 200 kHz with a 2.5 µs minimum pulse width when the signal and wiring meet the specified conditions.
Which encoder modes can AFP2441 use?
AFP2441 supports direction-discrimination, individual-input and two-phase input modes, with ×1, ×2 or ×4 multiplication.
How should AFP2441 input filtering be selected?
Choose no filter or 4, 8, 16 or 32 µs by input group, balancing noise rejection against the shortest valid pulse.
What should be checked before installing AFP2441?
Confirm the FP2 rack, NPN logic, 24 VDC levels, encoder wiring, counter mode, multiplication, filter and eight comparison-output assignments.
Can AFP2441 be replaced by one FP7 module without other changes?
No. Panasonic states that migration to FP7 requires changing all FP2 units, so the project and I/O architecture must be re-engineered.
