Features:
- The SF4B-A20C arm/foot configuration can guard a taller assessed opening than a short hand-protection configuration; assess the actual access path before selecting it.
- Four-block beam-axis indicators help position the paired units before commissioning.
- Manual or automatic interlock operation can be selected by the prescribed wiring arrangement.
At the access point, the emitter and receiver establish a defined optical field; the external safety circuit must provide the required response to the safety outputs.
The four-block beam-axis alignment indicator shows where light is being received as the paired units are positioned. Use it for initial alignment, then complete the machine-level functional test before use.
The interlock function can use manual or automatic reset through the wiring arrangement. Choose the reset behavior as part of the safety-control design rather than assuming the same startup behavior in both configurations.
Apter Power can assist with documentation for the Panasonic SF4B-A20C compact safety light curtain; the installation still requires machine-level validation.

- Moving obstruction, not muting: SF4B-A20C has no muting or override function. Optional floating blanking can tolerate a configured number of interrupted, unspecified beams during a limited moving-obstruction case; it is not an unrestricted material-flow bypass. Reassess the changed minimum detectable object and safety distance before enabling it.
- Fixed obstruction: Optional fixed blanking addresses an object that remains in selected beam channels, unlike floating blanking for a moving obstruction. Both settings require the SFB-HC handy-controller; Panasonic lists SFC-WNC1 separately as the cable set for connecting it to a cable-type light curtain.
- Safety versus indication: Use OSSD 1 and OSSD 2 for the external safety-control path; the auxiliary output can provide non-safety state indication but cannot replace either safety output.
- Indicator availability: SF4B-A20C does not incorporate the large multi-purpose indicator function. An installation requiring prominent local status must plan indication around the supported non-safety output and actual machine interface.
- Pair routing: SF4B-A20C has a separate integral lead on the emitter and receiver. Plan a protected route from each side of the guarded opening to the external safety-control location before fixing the pair to the frame.
- Power-line separation: Route both safety-curtain leads apart from high-voltage and power lines, rather than sharing a raceway. Panasonic warns that induction can cause a malfunction, so check that segregation remains possible along both routes.
- Guarded stationary-machine opening: A paired SF4B-A20C field can be integrated at a stationary machinery access opening when the external safety circuit and machine stopping behavior are validated.
- Unsuitable moving or non-stopping equipment: Do not apply this curtain to mobile equipment such as AGVs or machinery that cannot be stopped immediately during its operating cycle by an emergency-stop system.
