Features:
- Two electrical RS485 segments exchange PROFIBUS or MPI telegrams through one repeater.
- Signal regeneration restores level and timing without translating addresses or protocols.
- Each segment retains its own termination, node-count, and cabling boundary.
A received telegram is reshaped before transmission to the other segment.
Both directions use the same configured network rate.
Supply, shield, bonding, and termination checks distinguish wiring faults from traffic faults.

Moving one serial telegram across two electrical segments
- Receive side: The repeater detects the RS485 state on the active segment.
- Reshaping: Internal electronics restore the signal level and edge timing.
- Transmit side: The recovered telegram is driven onto the opposite segment.
- Reverse traffic: Responses follow the same process in the other direction.
Keeping node loading and termination on the correct side
- Node count: Each segment remains within its documented station capacity.
- Termination: The physical end of each segment uses the required active termination.
- Cable length: The selected bit rate determines the permitted electrical distance.
- No translation: The repeater does not alter station addresses or protocol data.
Controlling interference around the RS485 path
- Cable shield: The bus shield continues through the intended connector and bonding path.
- Potential difference: Equipotential bonding limits current that would otherwise flow in the shield.
- Separation: The repeater keeps the two RS485 signal sections electrically distinct.
- Cabinet earth: Mounting and conductor routing support the installation EMC concept.
Locating a failure to one side of the repeater
- Supply check: The 24 V input must remain inside the documented range.
- Segment test: One cable section can be inspected independently from the other.
- Rate match: Both sides must use the same PROFIBUS or MPI bit rate.
- Node review: Duplicate addresses and excessive station loading remain network-level faults.
