Features:
- One electrical PROFIBUS segment exchanges data with two optical channels.
- Separate BFOC transmit and receive sockets form each fiber path.
- Signaling and measuring outputs expose link condition outside the data interfaces.
The OLM regenerates PROFIBUS traffic as it passes between the RS485 and optical sides.
Two optical channels permit line, star or documented redundant optical structures between OLM stations.
Electrical termination remains necessary at the physical ends of every RS485 segment.
The Siemens 6GK1503-3CA01 PROFIBUS OLM/P12 V4.1 Optical Link Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Regenerating PROFIBUS across different media
- RS485 side: The 9-pin D-sub connects one electrical PROFIBUS segment.
- Optical side: Two channels convert the bus traffic into light for POF or PCF links.
- Bit timing: The documented propagation delay must be included in the PROFIBUS segment calculation.
- Bus rate: Every connected segment follows the compatible configured PROFIBUS transmission rate.
Completing each bidirectional optical channel
- Transmit socket: The Tx fiber carries light from the local OLM to the remote receive socket.
- Receive socket: The Rx fiber accepts the return signal from the remote transmit socket.
- POF reach: Plastic optical fiber supports the documented shorter connection distance.
- PCF reach: PCF extends the supported path while retaining the same transmit-to-receive pairing.
Separating alarm reporting from optical measurement
- Status LEDs: Local indicators show power, bus and optical-channel conditions.
- Signaling contact: The isolated contact transfers an assigned alarm condition to external wiring.
- Measuring output: The two-pole output provides an optical-level value for commissioning and diagnosis.
- Fault isolation: Comparing both channel states helps locate a fiber, connector or remote-module problem.
Combining copper termination with optical topology
- RS485 ends: Each electrical PROFIBUS segment is terminated at its two physical ends.
- Optical line: Successive OLM channels extend the bus without adding copper length between cabinets.
- Redundant route: Two optical paths can be arranged only in the documented redundancy topology.
- Power wiring: The 18 to 32 V DC supply remains local to each OLM station.
