Features:
- The failsafe S7-300 CPU provides 2.5 MB of integrated work memory for standard and safety-related logic.
- Three communication interfaces separate MPI/DP, a second DP channel, and switched PROFINET traffic.
- A Micro Memory Card supplies the removable load-memory path required for the user program.
The CPU coordinates central racks and distributed field stations from one S7-300 control program.
Its PROFINET interface can operate as both IO Controller and I-Device while retaining ordinary Ethernet communication services.
Safety engineering is performed in STEP 7 with Distributed Safety, keeping the failsafe program within the CPU's documented configuration environment.
The Siemens 6ES7318-3FL01-0AB0 CPU 319F-3 PN/DP may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Program and runtime areas
- Work memory: Integrated memory holds the executable code and active data used by the CPU cycle.
- Load memory: The removable Micro Memory Card stores the project transferred from STEP 7.
- Retentive area: Selected flags, data blocks, timers, and counters can preserve their values across the relevant restart condition.
- Process image: Input and output images provide the cyclic data boundary between the program and configured I/O.
Three independent communication roles
- MPI/DP port: The first RS 485 channel supports programming access, operator communication, and PROFIBUS DP.
- Dedicated DP: The second RS 485 channel can control or join a separate PROFIBUS DP network.
- PROFINET switch: Two RJ45 ports place distributed Ethernet devices on the integrated PROFINET interface.
- Routing: The CPU passes supported engineering and S7 communication between configured networks.
Expansion boundaries
- Rack structure: Up to four racks with eight modules per rack define the central hardware arrangement.
- DP stations: Each integrated DP master path addresses as many as 124 PROFIBUS devices.
- PN stations: The PROFINET controller accepts up to 256 IO devices within the detailed RT and IRT limits.
- Address mapping: Distributed input and output data occupy the CPU's configured I/O address space and process images.
Failsafe engineering boundary
- Tool chain: STEP 7 V5.5 or higher and Distributed Safety V5.4 SP4 form the documented configuration environment.
- PROFIsafe path: Safety telegrams can travel through configured PROFIBUS or PROFINET distributed I/O.
- Clocked I/O: Isochronous operation is assigned to either the second DP interface or PROFINET, not both simultaneously.
- Memory medium: The Micro Memory Card must be present when the configured standard and failsafe program is loaded.
