Features:
- Four input channels translate field signals into S7-300 values.
- Four output channels convert CPU words back into voltage or current.
- The front connector carries both directions while the backplane exchanges process data.
Input range selection determines how each physical signal is represented in the controller.
Output range selection determines how each digital command becomes a field voltage or current.
Diagnostic and limit-monitoring events let the CPU distinguish configured channel conditions from routine analog changes.

Turning voltage or current into controller values
- Range selection: The configured measurement range defines how the electrical input is scaled.
- Conversion: Each of the four input channels produces a digital process value for the CPU.
- Limit check: Configured thresholds can trigger the documented hardware interrupt.
- Diagnostics: Channel and module information helps separate wiring faults from changing process values.
Driving four analog field commands
- CPU value: The S7-300 writes one output word for each configured channel.
- Electrical range: The selected voltage or current range converts that word into the field signal.
- Field supply: The 24 V DC connection powers the analog output circuitry.
- Shared connector: Input, output and supply conductors terminate at the 20-pole front connector.
Separating field-side events from backplane communication
- Backplane boundary: Channel electronics are isolated from the S7-300 backplane bus.
- Diagnostic alarm: An enabled diagnostic condition is reported to the CPU through the module interface.
- Hardware interrupt: Input limit monitoring can request prompt CPU processing without continuous polling.
- Channel assignment: The project must match each terminal with its configured input or output range.
Keeping mixed analog wiring organized
- Twenty poles: One front connector carries all four inputs, four outputs and their reference wiring.
- Signal type: Voltage and current circuits use the terminals assigned to the selected channel range.
- Reference conductors: Return and reference paths must follow the channel wiring diagram.
- Module slot: The backplane connector exchanges data with the CPU after the module is seated in the S7-300 rack.
