Features:
- A one-microsecond program cycle evaluates local Boolean logic independently of the CPU scan.
- Eight protected current-sinking outputs respond to digital and encoder conditions calculated inside the module.
- One encoder interface accepts incremental or SSI feedback for counting and position-dependent logic.
The FM352-5 closes fast discrete logic paths locally while the S7-300 CPU exchanges configuration and result data through the backplane.
Digital inputs, encoder feedback and output groups use separate connection roles, letting the module combine events without treating encoder lines as ordinary load outputs.
Local LEDs and diagnostic alarms distinguish logic state from missing supply, output overload, encoder trouble and memory-card faults.
The Siemens 6ES7352-5AH01-0AE0 FM352-5 High-Speed Boolean Processor may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Local logic outside the CPU scan
- Module program: The Boolean program runs in the FM352-5 RAM and evaluates local states every microsecond.
- CPU relationship: The S7-300 CPU configures and exchanges data with the function module without executing each fast logic transition.
- Input response: Programmable filters set the minimum accepted pulse width before an input state reaches the Boolean program.
- Output response: Calculated logic states are transferred directly to the assigned NPN output channels.
How discrete signals share the module
- Standard inputs: Eight 24 V inputs provide the normal Boolean state channels.
- Expanded inputs: The 24 V encoder input lines can raise the available Boolean input count to twelve when configured that way.
- NPN outputs: Eight current-sinking channels switch the connected load toward the module return path.
- Parallel outputs: Two outputs can be paired only within the documented current-uprating arrangement.
Incremental and absolute signal paths
- RS422 incremental: Differential A, B and zero-mark pairs carry 5 V incremental feedback into the encoder circuit.
- 24 V incremental: Asymmetrical A, B and zero-mark signals use the separate 24 V encoder-input format.
- SSI absolute: DATA and CLOCK differential pairs transfer a parameterized 13- or 25-bit absolute position telegram.
- Logic use: The Boolean program combines the decoded encoder or counter state with digital inputs before driving outputs.
Locating supply, output and memory faults
- Load groups: Missing 1L, 2L or 3L supply is reported separately so the affected input, output or encoder path can be traced.
- Output protection: Short-circuit, overvoltage and thermal protection supervise the current-sinking output stage.
- Encoder supplies: Dedicated red indicators report overload on the 5 V and 24 V encoder-supply outputs.
- Memory card: The MCF indication identifies a Micro Memory Card fault independently of the general SF module error.
