Features:

  • Terminates serial communications for the compatible multi-function processor installation.
  • Allows either dual RS-232-C links or a mixed RS-232-C and RS-485 arrangement.
  • Includes the documented control-station serial connection and field terminals.
NIMP02 is the panel-mounted field termination for the compatible INFI 90 multi-function processor.

Its configurable serial arrangement brings processor and control-station communications to accessible connectors.

Confirm port standard, cable pinout, grounding and the 210 mA supply allowance before replacement.

Exact processor and serial-interface matching is required for legacy supply.

  • Terminate processor communications to serial printers, terminals or engineering equipment.
  • Provide an RS-485 path where the documented processor configuration uses that interface.
  • Connect the control-station serial channel on a field termination panel.
  • The hardware can provide two RS-232-C links.
  • An alternate arrangement combines one RS-232-C link with one RS-485 link.
  • The control-station serial path is terminated separately from the external-device ports.
  • Two 16-pin sockets carry the documented processor and station connections.
  • The DB-9 connector is assigned to the RS-485 interface.
  • Shielding, ground reference, and cable pinout must follow instruction I-E96-401A.
  • The termination panel is rated for service from 0 to 70 °C.
  • Relative humidity is limited to 5 to 90% without condensation.
  • The documented installation altitude extends to 3 km.
Description
NIMP02 provides the external serial and control-station termination for the compatible INFI 90 multi-function processor. It concentrates the field-facing connectors and terminals on a panel-mounted assembly instead of placing permanent external wiring directly on the processor module.

The documented hardware supports either two RS-232-C communication links or one RS-232-C link together with one RS-485 link. The DB-9 connector is assigned to the RS-485 path, while the two 16-pin sockets and terminal blocks complete the processor and station connections shown in I-E96-401A.

Serial data passes between the external device and the processor through the termination wiring; the NIMP02 supplies the physical interface and indication rather than executing the communications protocol. A front indication provides local status information for maintenance checks.

Technical notes
NIMP02 RS-232-C and RS-485 ports are not interchangeable; verify the DB-9 assignment and both 16-pin connectors before reconnecting any serial device.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
How can the two communication channels on ABB NIMP02 be configured?
The official hardware supports either two RS-232-C links or one RS-232-C link combined with one RS-485 link.
Which ABB NIMP02 connector carries the RS-485 path?
ABB Bailey assigns the DB-9 connector to the documented RS-485 connection.
What function is served by the control-station link on ABB NIMP02?
It provides the physical serial termination between the compatible processor installation and its control station.
Where is ABB NIMP02 mounted compared with a standard termination-unit card?
The module is screw-mounted on a field termination panel rather than occupying the same format as a plug-in controller module.
What compatibility points rule out a blind ABB NIMP02 substitution?
Processor type, RS-232/RS-485 selection, connector pinout, station link, +24 V capacity and panel mounting must agree.
What should be supplied for an ABB NIMP02 serial-interface enquiry?
Include the processor label, port mode, connected-device list, cable drawings, panel arrangement, quantity and destination.
