Features:
- Interface Between the Pulse Encoder and ACS550 Drive Control System
- Combines Capability of High-Speed Signal Processing with Differential/Single-Ended Interface
- Operates in Conjunction with Standard Digital Pulse Encoders and ACS550 Series Drives
The OTAC-01 operates as the Pulse Encoder Interface Module in an ACS550 drive system, providing reliable speed and position feedback from digital pulse encoders to the drive control system within the ACS550. It continuously converts incoming encoder pulse signals (differential or single-ended) to regulated feedback data and distributes this information through the drive control bus to support steady state operation of all speed and position control functions. Seamless signal transfer is standard with the OTAC-01, however using an optional Differential Output Configuration will provide enhanced noise immunity and signal integrity in demanding industrial environments. The OTAC-01 has made improvements in several areas over previous encoder interface designs in addition to incorporating universal 5V and 15V encoder power supply capability within the ACS550 drive family.
The OTAC-01 provides essential encoder interface functions common to the entire drive control system, and is a critical component of the speed and position feedback path, directly affecting the accuracy and reliability of motor control in the overall ACS550 drive system. One OTAC-01 module is required per encoder feedback channel depending on the desired control precision and application requirements. The OTAC-01 occupies only a single slot in the option slot of the ACS550 drive and is always located in Slot 1 or Slot 2 (the dedicated option slots, the primary expansion positions).
For Dual Encoder Feedback applications, the ACS550 System requires a second OTAC-01 pulse encoder interface module installed in the redundant slot. In addition to standard single encoder operation, the redundant configuration also performs automatic feedback validation. The ACS550 dual encoder configuration executes comparison using the internal signal processing specified in the drive control options. Using this method, the redundant encoder system continually monitors the health of both feedback channels. If the system detects that the primary encoder is no longer providing stable output (outside configured speed/position tolerance levels), it will automatically transfer the control to the secondary encoder and place an event in the Drive Event Log.
The OTAC-01 Universal AC Power Supply may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
