Features:
- Provides Local Boolean Logic Processing for High-Speed Digital Control Applications
- Supports 24V DC Sink Inputs and Source Outputs in a Compact I/O Platform
- Designed for CompactLogix Systems with Simple Wiring and Reliable Integration
The Allen-Bradley 1769-BOOLEAN Control Module is a Compact I/O module designed to execute predefined Boolean logic directly on the module, reducing dependence on the controller scan cycle for time-critical operations. It supports 24V DC sink inputs and source outputs, allowing field devices to exchange digital signals with high reliability while minimizing response delays. By processing logic locally, the 1769-BOOLEAN helps improve machine responsiveness during emergency stop sequences, interlock functions, and other applications requiring deterministic digital control.
The 1769-BOOLEAN is installed as part of a Compact I/O system using the standard tongue-and-groove mounting mechanism on a DIN rail or panel. Field wiring is completed through a removable terminal block (RTB), supporting 14–22 AWG solid copper wire and 16–22 AWG stranded copper wire. Configuration is performed using RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000, where users define Boolean logic functions and I/O parameters to match application requirements. Proper installation on a well-grounded mounting surface helps ensure stable electrical performance and reliable operation.
The Allen-Bradley 1769-BOOLEAN Control Module remains a practical solution for maintaining and expanding existing CompactLogix systems based on the 1769 Compact I/O platform. For facilities operating legacy installations, the 1769-BOOLEAN continues to support dependable high-speed digital control. For new automation projects requiring enhanced processing performance and long-term platform support, migration to newer CompactLogix 5370 or CompactLogix 5380 controllers may be considered while preserving compatible system design practices.
The 1769-BOOLEAN Allen-Bradley Control Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- High-Speed Packaging Systems: Managing precise physical triggers such as glue-gun activation, label placement, box capping, and automated cutting operations immediately following photo-eye transitions.
- Material Handling & Logistics: Controlling high-speed sorting gates, diverters, and merge points where conveyor sensor states must dictate physical responses instantaneously.
- Registration Mark Detection: Capturing rapid pulse triggers from proximity sensors, encoders, or registration marks to execute localized machine adjustments without backplane communication lag.
- Direct Control Mode: The output points operate like a traditional digital I/O module, responding directly to the commands issued by the central PLC controller program.
- Expression Control Mode: The module acts independently by evaluating pre-configured Boolean expressions. These expressions combine the module's real hardware input states with "soft" virtual inputs updated by the controller.
- Signal Conditioning: When running in expression mode, logic execution can be further customized using configurable on-board delay timers and output pulse duration settings.
- Interrupt Handling: To keep the main controller synchronized, the module can trigger system interrupts instantly upon both input and output change-of-state (COS) transitions.
- Zero Backplane Latency: Because expressions are evaluated natively on the I/O card, outputs are fired without waiting for the PLC backplane cycle or the main application program's scheduled scan time.
- Ultrafast Transition Response: The module boasts highly responsive hardware circuitry, yielding ultra-low 10 microsecond (μs) OFF-to-ON and ON-to-OFF input delays.
- Reduced CPU Overhead: Offloading repetitive, high-speed logical conditions to the hardware module frees up processing bandwidth on the primary CompactLogix CPU, allowing the central application program to run more efficiently.
- Form Factor Economy: Combining 24V DC inputs, outputs, and dedicated logical processing onto a single module saves DIN rail space and lowers physical hardware infrastructure costs.
