More Information

Overview Manuals Channel Isolation Load & Power Dynamic Tests Product Applications

Features:

  • Per-point isolation: eight output channels maintain documented separation from one another
  • Mixed signal modes: current and voltage outputs can be combined within one module
  • Fast precise response: 16-bit conversion, 1 ms minimum scan, and 0.05% calibrated accuracy support control tasks
1756-OF8I is selected when analog actuators require separate electrical references or a mix of current and voltage signal modes.

Isolation does not remove the need to verify external source potentials, load resistance, terminal assignments, and total chassis power.

The most useful acceptance record proves each channel under load and ties its mode, range, scaling, diagnostics, isolation need, and controller command together.

Availability of 1756-OF8I is subject to Apter Power inventory and sourcing confirmation.

  • Reference map: document the return and external potential for every channel.
  • Separation: keep output-to-output conditions inside the published isolation rating.
  • Terminal assignment: retain OUT/V, OUT/I, and RTN identity for each point.
  • Proof test: verify one channel without unintentionally bridging another isolated domain.
  • Current loads: evaluate resistance through the documented 0...1000 Ω range.
  • Voltage loads: keep input resistance above the stated minimum.
  • Backplane current: use the load-dependent 24 V values in the chassis calculation.
  • Heat: apply the corresponding dissipation for the actual current-load group.
  • Accuracy: compare traceable values with the 25 °C calibrated specification.
  • Settling: observe a commanded step with the installed resistive load.
  • Diagnostics: exercise current open-circuit and voltage short-circuit reporting safely.
  • Data path: confirm IEEE floating-point scaling and the 1 ms minimum module scan context.
  • Isolated actuator references: drive field devices with separate analog commons.
  • Mixed-output cabinets: combine supported current and voltage channels in one ControlLogix slot.
  • Precision analog control: provide fast 16-bit setpoints to compatible industrial equipment.
Description
1756-OF8I provides eight individually isolated analog outputs, with any channel configurable for a supported voltage or current range. The module uses a 36-position 1756-TBCH or 1756-TBS6H RTB.

Per-point separation distinguishes 1756-OF8I from shared-reference output designs. Rockwell documents 250 V output-to-backplane reinforced insulation and 250 V basic output-to-output insulation, together with load-dependent 24 V backplane current.

Commissioning 1756-OF8I should prove load capability, channel range, scaling, open- or short-circuit diagnostics, settling behavior, isolation boundaries, and cabinet power at the actual load resistance. A channel-by-channel test preserves the value of the isolated architecture.

Technical notes
Per-channel isolation is the primary selection reason for 1756-OF8I. Preserve each output reference, signal mode, range, load resistance, power estimate, RTB terminal map, scaling, diagnostic behavior, and accepted loaded value.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
When is the per-point isolation of 1756-OF8I valuable?
It is useful when supported analog loads use different references or require separation, provided the complete wiring remains within the documented output-to-output and backplane ratings.
How does load resistance affect the chassis power calculation for 1756-OF8I?
Current-mode backplane demand and dissipation rise with load resistance, so calculate the actual mix of channels instead of applying a voltage-mode estimate to every installation.
What should be tested when a current channel on 1756-OF8I reports an open circuit?
Confirm the channel mode and command, measure loop continuity and resistance, inspect OUT/I and RTN terminals, and compare the controller diagnostic with a known load.
Why can a voltage output on 1756-OF8I fail to reach its command?
An excessive load, short circuit, wrong terminal, scaling error, external potential, or configuration mismatch can limit the measured result even when the channel remains active.
Which terminal block is required for 1756-OF8I?
Match the 36-position 1756-TBCH or 1756-TBS6H and retain the user-defined mechanical keying plus every channel’s voltage, current, and return terminal map.
How should the fast response of 1756-OF8I be accepted?
Use a traceable command and resistive load, observe settling and final value, include controller and network latency, then verify diagnostics and isolation without bridging channels.
