Features:
- Sixteen sourcing outputs share one common in the SLC 500 I/O structure.
- A thermal cutout and automatic reset operate independently on an affected point.
- The removable terminal block separates field wiring from the chassis connection.
Controller output bits command the sixteen channels of
1746-OB16E, while the field supply provides the energy switched to the connected loads.
The module logic draws from the 5 V SLC 500 backplane, so chassis loading and field-load current are evaluated as separate circuits.
Configuration ID 2920 identifies the catalog number to the SLC 500 programming environment without assigning an unverified hardware revision.
The Allen-Bradley 1746-OB16E SLC 500 16-Point Electronically Protected DC Sourcing Output Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

Channel protection response
- Affected point: a short circuit or overload drives the channel into thermal current limiting.
- Other outputs: unaffected points continue to respond to their controller image bits.
- Automatic reset: the protected path can recover after temperature and load conditions return to range.
- External protection: the electronic cutout does not replace branch protection or correct reversed polarity.
Applying point and module limits
- Point loading: each channel is sized against the ambient-temperature current limit.
- Combined demand: the sixteen active loads must remain inside the module-wide current ceiling.
- Starting current: inrush is checked against both the per-point and whole-module surge windows.
- Voltage margin: the on-state drop is included when confirming the load receives adequate field voltage.
Sourcing-output connections
- Shared common: all sixteen field outputs use the common assigned to this module.
- Supply polarity: the 10–30 V DC source must be connected for a sourcing arrangement.
- Terminal boundary: field conductors land on the removable block rather than the chassis backplane.
- Inductive loads: external suppression is applied where the connected device produces switching transients.
Chassis and program identification
- Module identity: ID code 2920 selects the installed catalog number in the SLC 500 configuration.
- Image mapping: each programmed output bit corresponds to one field terminal.
- Backplane allocation: the chassis supply budget includes the module's 5 V logic demand.
- Catalog control: the complete 1746-OB16E designation is retained without inventing a Series or Revision.
