Overview Manuals Host Compatibility Replacement Control Battery Safety Product Applications

Features:

  • Lithium battery assembly for supported SLC memory retention
  • FDK CR14250SE cell identity with 0.29 g lithium content
  • Replaceable service component selected by exact host compatibility
The assembly preserves volatile controller memory when normal power is unavailable.

Host compatibility and the replacement sequence matter more than matching a bare cell by size or nominal voltage.

A safe service plan combines a verified program backup, controlled connector handling, and compliant lithium storage and disposal.

The 1747-BA Allen-Bradley is listed as Active / Available from OEM.

  • Confirm the exact processor or module catalog and revision.
  • Match the complete connector and lead assembly, not only the cell.
  • Use the host-specific replacement procedure and time limit.
  • Verify a readable program backup before opening the controller.
  • Follow the required powered or unpowered service sequence.
  • Check the battery indicator and memory after installation.
  • Prevent short circuits and reverse connection.
  • Do not recharge, heat, open, crush, or modify the assembly.
  • Use approved lithium transport and disposal channels.
  • Memory retention for documented SLC processors
  • Planned battery maintenance with a verified program archive
  • Legacy controller spares selected by exact host identity
Description
Allen-Bradley 1747-BA is a replaceable lithium battery assembly for supported SLC controller hardware. Its purpose is to sustain volatile memory when external power is removed; it is not a rechargeable backup supply for field loads.

Rockwell identifies 1747-BA with an FDK CR14250SE lithium cell and 0.29 g lithium content. Compatibility depends on the exact processor or module, connector, lead arrangement, and service procedure rather than on cell voltage or physical appearance alone.

Before replacing 1747-BA, secure the current program and configuration, verify the host catalog and revision, and follow the documented power-state sequence. Where the supported host provides a battery indicator, interpret it under that host manual. Handle, transport, store, and dispose of the lithium assembly under applicable battery rules, without shorting, charging, heating, or opening it.

Technical notes
Use 1747-BA only with a documented host and follow that host’s battery-change sequence. Back up the program first, verify connector polarity, prevent short circuits, and keep the old and new leads controlled. Do not charge, open, heat, crush, or dispose of the lithium battery in general waste.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can a loose CR14250SE cell be ordered instead of 1747-BA?
No. Rockwell identifies 1747-BA as the battery assembly and CR14250SE as the cell used inside it. A cell code alone does not establish the correct leads and connector for the controller; stop the order unless the complete 1747-BA assembly is identified.
What should be done when a BATTERY LOW indication first appears on a controller using 1747-BA?
Treat it as a memory-retention warning, not proof that the cell alone has failed. Save and verify the project, then check the battery connection and plan replacement under the exact host procedure; do not remove power or disconnect the battery until that procedure is confirmed.
Can installing a new 1747-BA recover a program that has already disappeared?
No. 1747-BA retains volatile RAM; it cannot recreate lost logic or configuration. Keep the machine stopped and restore the verified backup for that controller before controlled recommissioning; stop if no verified backup is available.
Why might the BATTERY LOW indication remain after a new 1747-BA is installed?
The cause is host-specific. On a MicroLogix 1400, a disconnected battery wire connector can keep the indication set; fixed-hardware SLC controllers use their own indicator logic. Follow only the exact host manual, and stop if the indication remains or the program state is uncertain.
Should every SLC controller use the same calendar interval for 1747-BA replacement?
No. Rockwell lists approximate RAM-backup life, not guaranteed calendar replacement intervals: about five years for 1747-L511 and about two years for 1747-L514 and SLC 5/02 through 5/05. Plan from the exact processor identity, battery indication, and maintenance history; do not set an interval if the processor is unknown.
When should a stored 1747-BA spare be rejected before planned maintenance?
Do not install it if its manufacturing or storage age cannot be established, it has exceeded Rockwell’s 10-year storage limit, or it shows damage, leakage, or overheating. Quarantine the unit for approved handling and obtain a traceable spare before the outage.
