- Sixteen single-ended current inputs in one SLC 500 I/O slot
- Selectable 0–20 mA, 4–20 mA, ±20 mA and 0–1 mA input ranges
- Class 1 or Class 3 operation with programmable channel filtering and diagnostics
1746-NI16I converts sixteen field-current signals for retrieval by fixed or modular SLC 500 processors.
Class 3 operation provides the full 32-input-word and 32-output-word data structure, while Class 1 supports processors and remote-I/O paths that cannot use Class 3.
Connect both analog common terminals as documented, ground shields at the chassis mounting screws, tie unused channels to analog common, and select the input range and filter for each active channel.
Availability, condition, price, and shipping time for 1746-NI16I are confirmed during quotation.

- Uses two analog common terminals internally connected across all sixteen current inputs.
- Requires shield drain wires to be connected to chassis mounting screws.
- Requires external transmitter loop power matched to the transmitter specification.
- Supports Class 1 and Class 3 operation, with Class 3 recommended where the processor and chassis support it.
- Offers engineering units, scaled-for-PID and proportional-count data formats.
- Provides eight selectable digital-filter frequencies for balancing response and noise rejection.
- Uses five green indicators: one per four-channel group and one module-status indicator.
- Detects a current-input open circuit in less than five seconds.
- Provides module-status and channel diagnostic information through the SLC data image.
- Acquiring 4–20 mA process transmitters in SLC 500 systems
- Monitoring 0–20 mA industrial current signals
- Reading low-current 0–1 mA instrumentation inputs
