Features:
- Receives Input from Eddy Current or Magnetic Pickup Sensors for Speed Measurement
- Provides Four Configurable Monitoring Modes with Alarm Setpoints and Peak Hold Capability
- Operates in Conjunction with the 3500 Rack Configuration Software and Other 3500 Monitors
The Bently Nevada 3500/50 functions as a dual-channel Tachometer Module within the 3500 rack, providing precise speed measurement and rotor acceleration monitoring for rotating machinery. It continuously processes incoming signals from proximity probes or magnetic pickups, converting these to accurate speed data and distributing conditioned Keyphasor signals through the rack backplane to support operation of other monitors and modules. Seamless integration is standard with the 3500/50, however using the Peak Hold feature will allow storage of maximum speed, reverse speed, or number of reverse rotations until manually reset by the user. The 3500/50 offers significant flexibility over previous designs in addition to incorporating four configurable monitoring modes within the 3500 rack.
The 3500/50 provides essential speed monitoring functions common to machinery protection, and is a critical component of the monitoring path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of the overall monitor system. One 3500/50 module occupies a single full-height slot in the rack and can be installed in any available slot position from Slot 1 to Slot 15 (excluding Slot 0 reserved for power supplies).
For applications requiring Keyphasor signal distribution, the 3500/50 can be configured to supply conditioned Keyphasor signals to the rack backplane, eliminating the need for separate Keyphasor modules. In addition to standard speed monitoring, the module performs automatic signal conditioning. The 3500/50 signal processing executes using the internal circuitry specified in the module options. Using this method, the tachometer system continually monitors the health of input signals. If the system detects that the input signal is no longer valid (outside configured thresholds or signal lost), it will automatically trigger an alarm and place an event in the System Event List.
The 3500/50 Bently Nevada Tachometer Module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

- Power Generation: Continuous monitoring of turbine speed for operational safety.
- Oil and Gas: Protecting critical compressors and pumps from damage due to abnormal speed conditions.
- Manufacturing: Safeguarding motors and conveyor systems by tracking rotational parameters.
- Aerospace: Monitoring rotor systems during testing and standard operation.
- Protection Options: Users can configure the module for four distinct protection modes: Speed Band Alarming, Zero Speed Notification, Rotor Acceleration Alarming, and Reverse Rotation Notification.
- Peak Hold Feature: It stores the highest recorded speed, highest reverse speed, or the number of reverse rotations reached by the machine.
- Self-Diagnostics: The system features self-monitoring to identify faults in the module or connected transducers, using appropriate error codes to annunciate problems and suppress faulty channel operation.
- Buffered Outputs: Front-panel coaxial connectors provide buffered signals for external diagnostic equipment.
- Conditioned Keyphasor Signals: It can supply Keyphasor signals directly to the 3500 rack backplane, often eliminating the need for a separate Keyphasor module.
- Software Requirements: Programming must be performed via 3500 Rack Configuration Software (version 2.00 or later for standard types; version 3.50 or later for Reverse Rotation).
- Firmware Compatibility: If adding a 3500/50 to an existing rack, the system typically requires Revision J (1.09) or later for full functionality, particularly for reverse rotation features.
- Module Interaction: The 3500/50M variant requires 3500/22M Transient Data Interface firmware Revision 1.70 or later.
