More Information

Overview Manuals Remote I/O Fit Data Mapping Migration Setup Product Applications

Features:

  • Connects an M-series controller to a PROFIBUS DP fieldbus segment for cyclic device-data exchange.
  • Belongs to the earlier Series 2 Plus generation of DeltaV PROFIBUS interface cards.
  • Supports existing simplex installations and the specified redundant PROFIBUS service arrangement.
VE4022 is the simplex controller-side assembly for an I/O.Connect PROFIBUS route.

The modernization value comes from translating retained remote-I/O information into the DeltaV environment rather than replacing every field termination by default.

Success depends on the exact rack, module and firmware entries in Emerson's compatibility information.

  • Retains remote I/O only when rack, module, and firmware entries appear in the validated compatibility tables.
  • Connects approved legacy hardware through the simplex PROFIBUS route without qualifying unsupported modules.
  • Requires another migration architecture whenever the installed rack cannot map to an accepted combination.
  • Translates retained remote-I/O channel information into corresponding DeltaV I/O data structures during configuration.
  • Preserves verified rack positions and channel assignments so field points remain traceable after migration.
  • Checks data direction, signal type, and channel status before imported points enter control service.
  • Uses DeltaV v14.LTS as the currently validated software baseline for this I/O.Connect configuration.
  • Records remote rack family, module revision, and firmware before building the migration database.
  • Validates the simplex PROFIBUS segment and controller download in staging before plant cutover.
  • DeltaV modernization of supported PROFIBUS DP remote-I/O installations
  • Simplex I/O.Connect architectures that require one M-series interface card
  • Brownfield migrations where imported I/O data must be reconciled with an installed rack map
Description
VE4022 packages one M-series PROFIBUS DP interface card with a simplex terminal block for Emerson's DeltaV I/O.Connect architecture, providing the controller-side link used to integrate supported legacy remote I/O.

In a VE4022 modernization, the interface converts device and channel information into DeltaV I/O data structures so existing field wiring and remote racks can remain part of the project where the published compatibility table permits them.

Engineering VE4022 is therefore a mapping exercise as well as a hardware selection: the remote I/O family, module firmware, rack layout and DeltaV release determine whether the retained installation can be commissioned without rebuilding its field termination.

Technical notes
VE4022 is a simplex I/O.Connect assembly and the current Emerson validation is for DeltaV v14.LTS. hold commissioning if the project release or the remote-I/O module and firmware combination falls outside the published compatibility tables.

FAQS

The following is a list of questions commonly asked by our customers. Please contact us if you have a question about our process that is not answered below.
Can VE4022 keep the existing remote-I/O field wiring during a DeltaV modernization?
Conditionally. The value of I/O.Connect is retaining supported remote hardware and wiring, but only modules and firmware in Emerson's tables should be carried forward. Stop the design if the installed rack cannot be mapped to those entries.
Why do VE4022 channels appear in DeltaV but not match the physical rack after conversion?
The imported module template or rack address is misaligned with the installed I/O map. Reconcile the first mismatched slot before downloading further changes; a hardware exchange will not correct a database mapping error.
When should a project use a different architecture instead of VE4022?
Choose another assembly when the design requires a redundant controller-side PROFIBUS interface. VE4022 supplies one card and a simplex terminal block, so a redundant project must begin with the appropriate redundant ordering configuration.
What does a new communication loss after a VE4022 controller download suggest?
Start with PROFIBUS addressing and the downloaded I/O configuration. A fault that begins immediately after a database change is more likely a mapping or network-setting issue than simultaneous failure of the retained remote modules.
Can VE4022 be commissioned on any earlier DeltaV release if the PROFIBUS link comes online?
A live link is not the same as current validation. Emerson validates the present I/O.Connect solution for v14.LTS; treat an earlier release as an engineering exception and do not release the migration solely because basic communications start.
An S800 rack is being retained; what should the VE4022 RFQ include?
Provide the remote-I/O family, rack layout, module firmware and DeltaV release, then state that the required assembly is simplex. These details determine whether the retained I/O can follow the published I/O.Connect path.
