Features:
- Direct Interface for Eight Thermocouple Channels to the Series 90-30 Rack Backplane
- Integrated High-Resolution A/D Conversion with Per-Channel Diagnostic Support
- Functions Alongside Standard Series 90-30 CPUs and Expansion Modules
The HE693THM884G operates as an 8-channel thermocouple input module in a Series 90-30 rack, providing high-precision temperature data acquisition for the PLC system. It continuously converts incoming analog signals from J, K, T, E, N, R, and S type thermocouples to digital values with 0.1°C resolution and stores these values in %AI input registers, distributing this data through the rack backplane to support real-time monitoring and control of thermal processes. Cold junction compensation is integrated within the HE693THM884G, and using the built-in open circuit detection feature will allow immediate fault indication by driving the channel value to maximum in the event of a sensor disconnection. The HE693THM884G has made improvements in several areas over previous thermocouple input designs in addition to incorporating 18-bit integrating A/D conversion and universal thermocouple type support within the Series 90-30 rack.
The HE693THM884G provides essential temperature input functions common to the entire control system, and is a critical component of the process monitoring path, directly affecting the proper, normal operation of temperature-dependent control loops. One or more HE693THM884G modules may be installed per rack depending on the number of temperature zones to be monitored. The HE693THM884G occupies a single full-height slot in the rack and can be installed in any available I/O slot position, drawing 100 mA at 5 VDC from the backplane.
For multi-channel alarm applications, the Series 90-30 system utilizes the HE693THM884G module's dedicated alarm bits assigned to each input channel. In addition to standard temperature measurement operation, the alarm configuration also performs automatic fault detection. The HE693THM884G dual-alarm system executes diagnostics using the internal 16 %I alarm bits specified for the module options. Using this method, the diagnostic system continually monitors the health of all eight channels. If the module detects that a thermocouple channel is no longer providing a valid signal (outside configured tolerance levels or open circuit condition), it will automatically set the corresponding alarm bit and update the System Event status for that channel.
The HE693THM884G General Electric 8 channel thermocouple input module may still be available for purchase and support from Apter Power beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).
