Features:
- Links a Series Three CPU to external serial equipment through separate CPU and communications connectors.
- Supports internal CPU power or a dedicated external 5 VDC source according to the rack power plan.
- Provides DATA, DIAG, and PWR indicators for traffic, diagnostic, and supply checks.
The
IC630CCM300 adds a configurable serial communications path to a Series Three controller. Its CPU connector carries exchanges with the programmable controller, while the communications connector presents the interface to the external device.
Before commissioning, the rear switches establish the CPU identifier and the operating characteristics of the serial port. These selections must agree with the connected equipment before the front switch is placed ON-LINE.
Power selection is part of the installation decision rather than a universal setting. The available rack capacity, the fitted power supply, and the remaining module load determine whether IC630CCM300 can use CPU power or must receive an external supply.

Bringing the Serial Link On Line
- Operating switch: The recessed ON-LINE / OFF-LINE switch determines whether IC630CCM300 communicates with the Series Three CPU.
- OFF-LINE effect: OFF-LINE disables the DCM serial path and leaves the CPU under programmer control.
- CPU key position: A link can be established only while the CPU keyswitch is at RUN 1 or RUN; moving it out of those positions breaks the link and turns off the CPU TERMINAL indicator.
- Link recovery: Return the keyswitch to RUN 1 or RUN, then cycle the IC630CCM300 switch so it finishes in ON-LINE; the TERMINAL indicator confirms that the CPU/DCM interface is enabled.
Communication Switch Decisions
- Data rate: Select 300, 1200, 9600, or 19.2 kbit/s and use the same rate at the connected serial device.
- Parity: Configure odd parity or disable parity consistently at both ends of the link.
- Service controls: Separate switch positions set loop-back testing, a 0 or 10 ms turn-around delay, and the keying signal; loop-back requires OFF-LINE operation and the designated test connector.
- CPU identifier: The upper rear switch group assigns an address from 1 through 90, so record the address and port-switch pattern before moving the module.
Selecting the Operating Supply
- Source selector: IC630CCM300 can take operating power internally through the CPU connector or externally through its front power connector.
- External input: The external source is 5 VDC at 0.5 A with separate logic-ground and protective-ground conductors.
- IC630PWR300A: A Series Three rack using IC630PWR300A requires the DCM to use an external supply.
- Rack capacity: For other rack supplies, calculate the complete installed load before selecting internal power.
- PWR check: If EXT is selected without an external source, the PWR indicator remains off and the communications module cannot enter service.
Interpreting Front Indicators
- PWR indicator: PWR on confirms that 5 VDC reaches IC630CCM300.
- DIAG indicator: DIAG on shows that power-up hardware diagnostics passed; PWR on with DIAG off means the module has not completed a valid diagnostic start.
- DATA indicator: DATA illuminates while information is transferred, while a dark indicator can mean either no exchange or a communications fault.
- Error causes: Check parity, overrun, framing, header, checksum, control-character, and serial-sink timeout conditions when traffic does not appear.
- Check order: Verify supply first, diagnostic status second, and traffic last to separate power or hardware conditions from configuration or protocol issues.
